🌥🪁 Classrooms 403, 404, and 405 combined their math and science skills to make and fly kites. So many neat and colorful kites - awesome work, students!

🌞🏫 The last day of school is here! Again, here are some reminders:

- If your student normally rides the school bus or goes to daycare - and he/she will have a different after-school plan today - please let the office know. You can email [email protected] or [email protected].

- Please pick-up your student(s) medication, inhaler, epi-pen, etc. by 3:00 pm today. Items not picked up will be disposed of. A parent/guardian must pick up the medication - it cannot be sent home with a student.

- We are not sending home or mailing hard-copies of fourth quarter report cards. You can access your student(s) grades through the Parent Portal. If your student is on an IEP, a hardcopy of his/her quarterly progress report will be sent home.

- The CLC Afterschool Program is CLOSED today. Please make other arrangements as all students need to be picked up by 3:00 pm.

- The last day to look at Lost & Found items is tomorrow, Friday, May 24. Office hours are 7:00 am - 3:00 pm. Items not claimed will be donated.

- The 2024-25 classroom assignments will be available in early August when we return from summer break. We will send an email when they are ready.

- The Discovery office will be closed from May 31 - July 31 for summer break. The office is also closed on Monday, May 27, for Memorial Day.

🎉👨🏼‍🏫👏🏼Two of Mr. Aust’s (401) students nominated him for “Parkway Orthodontics Favorite Teacher Giveaway” and he won! The students had to complete a nomination form explaining how Mr. Aust has influenced their lives, along with why they admire and appreciate him. Mr. Aust received a Visa gift card - and the classroom received treats and goodie bags. Congratulations, Mr. Aust! Much deserved!

👩🏻‍🌾🌽🐎 On Tuesday, the Sioux Falls Heritage Museum presented the “Pioneer Experience” to 2nd grade students. The students were engaged and enjoyed the presentation!

📣🙋🏻‍♂️ The Discovery PTO is still in need of volunteers for the annual Discovery Day Bash on Friday, May 17. The timeslots are in 30-minute intervals. Students/older siblings are welcome to volunteer; however, if they are under the age of 13, they need to volunteer with an adult. Wow! SFSD is so grateful to the Sioux Falls STORM, LEVO, and media partners KELOLand TV for supporting Operation Hope & Caring where $18,417 was raised to support elementary schools that don't have PTAs/PTOs. We had a great time at the game and especially enjoyed the WIN! ❤️

The perfect end to every school day for Gina Mees would be "for my students to leave my room with a smile on their face and a feeling of musical joy." Ms. Mees would enroll in Mrs. Gross' classroom if she had the chance because she says Mrs. Gross teaches more than music, she teaches about life! We're grateful BOTH ladies are part of what makes the Sioux Falls School District GREAT!

Tonight is THE night! Come out to support SFSD elementary schools without PTAs/PTOs as the Sioux Falls STORM take on the Green Bay Blizzard. It's also Star Wars night, so wear your gear and bring your lightsaber to this fun family event sponsored by LEVO Credit Union!

The Weather Service indicates the greatest threat of severe weather did not materialize in Sioux Falls. We will begin our bus routes at approximately 3pm, so there will be a slight delay in getting elementary and middle school students home. High School dismisses at normal time.

Due to the weather 4-30-24, SFSD will hold all elementary students who walk or ride the bus until the system passes. We expect the system to arrive about 2:45pm and be done around 3pm. Busses will not leave the elementary schools until it is safe to do so. This will also cause a delay in middle school bus routes, so plan accordingly. If wx is still an issue at high school dismissal time, we will encourage students to wait to leave until the system passes. Thank you.

❗️ ⛈ Weather may cause some challenges at school dismissal time today. SFSD will make plans with your child's safety as our highest priority. If there are changes, parents/guardians will be contacted immediately. We ask that you please monitor your phone and email closely.

💻🏫🧒🏻 It’s time to complete the required Annual Update/Registration for next year! Please try and complete it before the end of the school year – this is very helpful. We recommend completing it on a laptop or desktop computer – no cell phone, tablet, or iPad. We do have computers available in the office.

You will review/update your household and contact information. You will also give your student(s) permission:
- to be included in school publications (school pictures, yearbook, social media, etc.),
- to go on field trips, and
- to be included in other SFSD photos and videos.

⚠️ Reminder that the deadline to order your 2023-24 Discovery Yearbook is Sunday, April 28, at midnight. Again, we are only accepting online orders - no check or cash payments.
