Youth for Sustainable Futures
A youth-led effort to educate, motivate, and advocate for sustainable futures for Alaska
Youth for Sustainable Futures: An Introduction
This past year, YSF has worked with our community to bring long-lasting change. We have worked with the assembly to draft resolutions, organized a climate rally, and worked to spread awareness around Sitka. This video created by Kate Guiney shows what our members and our group as a whole hope to achieve: to educate, motivate, and advocate for a sustainable future.
Thank you to Kate Guiney and Sitka Conservation Society for this video!

During an assembly meeting in February, members of our group gave public testimony urging the Sitka assembly to pass a resolution declaring a climate change emergency. Though it did not pass, it gave us more visibility as a group and inspired discussion and ideas of compromise. Now, with the drastic changes put upon us by COVID-19, we realize that preparation for global catastrophes like these is key. And, because of quarantine, we are reminded that the outdoors is always waiting for us, even when much of our life has been stripped away, so it is vital that we look after it.
If you're bored during quarantine or want to support youth organizations, here are a few things to do:
1. Submit a video of you doing something outside during quarantine to [email protected]
2. Submit a postcard with a personal experience, confession, quote, or story on it to [email protected] (more details on the Sitka Youth Leadership Committee's Facebook)
3. Submit a photo and description of what you're doing during quarantine to [email protected]
4. If you're under 20, submit a video of yourself saying who you are and a value you hold that has come into perspective during the coronavirus outbreak to [email protected]
Stay safe and happy creating!
