Some people think it's an easy, high income, part-time job anyone could do. When in fact, the cost of doing business is substantial, you're practically on call 18/7, you’ll never get paid for some of the work you do, and to be a great agent and stay out of legal and financial trouble, you must be educated far above what you're taught in real estate school. You must put your clients' interest above your own. Self-discipline and self-motivation are a must. Financial planning is difficult because there is no steady or predictable stream of income. Bookkeeping is a pain. It's a roll-a-coaster ride of highs and lows with deals coming together and sometimes falling apart. The investment of time on weekends and evenings takes a toll on personal relationships. Sometimes, being alone in the company of others makes you vulnerable. On the upside, I feel amazing when I'm able to help my clients find and negotiate, not just a great home, but also an excellent investment. For many people, buying a home is the most important investment they'll ever make. My goal is to help my clients build a strong financial foundation which will help them and their families for the rest of their lives. When it's time to sell, I want my clients to be ecstatic about the decisions they made when they purchased the home(s). I've met so many marvelous people. I often miss our daily talks when the deal is done. I love what I do, but it's not as easy as some people might think.
