Summer is here and the heat is on! With the very hot temperatures expected this week across the Tri-State Area, make sure that you practice heat safety and take precautions to limit exposure if you have to be outside (especially between the hours of 10:00 AM and 3:00 PM where the sun's heat will be the strongest). Please see these helpful infographics on heat safety tips courtesy of the National Weather Service.
As we mark this week as National Volunteer Week (and April as National Volunteer Month!), we want to take a moment to thank all of our RespondDE volunteers for all the hard work and dedication they have put into serving their communities and making them safer places to live by being better prepared for disasters or emergencies. We literally cannot do what we do without all of you!

With the threat of urban and river flooding in the forecast for today and tomorrow, remember to not drive through flooded waters (especially at night). TURN AROUND, DON'T DROWN. You don't know how deep the water may be or if the road underneath has been compromised! Just 6 inches of moving water is enough to sweep your vehicle away!!
With the grounds already saturated from recent rainstorms, strong winds have a greater tendency to bring down power lines and cause power outages. Make sure your cell phones are charged up so you can continue to receive important alerts and monitor the latest forecast.
Let's get prepared and stay safe! 💪🏽 Don't forget to CHARGE all your electronic devices NOW! 📱💻 This could be a real game-changer if the power goes out, keeping you connected and in the loop. 🔄
Your phone can make a world of difference, providing access to emergency contacts, critical updates, and even a trusty flashlight!
Winter weather like snow and ice, although beautiful to look at, can create hazardous conditions in our communities. One such hazard that can arise is power outages. When winter weather is occurring or imminent, it is vitally important to have your phone charged so that you can continue to receive important updates about conditions and keep in touch with family and friends so they know that you are okay. A very good way to keep your devices powered during an outage is buying a power bank. You can easily find them from most major retailers for affordable prices.
Also, if you know that you will be travelling during winter weather, make sure to include water and snacks in case you are stuck!
Make sure you don't get left out in the cold this winter—update your car emergency kit with all the warm essentials! 🧣🧤🧦 Keep these items in your car for when the temperatures drop: blankets, extra clothes, hats, gloves, and hand warmers. Be prepared, and stay safe! 🚘

Flash flooding is looking more likely as a line of torrential rain will pass through PA and northern and central parts of Delaware sometime in the afternoon/evening. Please have a way to receive emergency alerts (like flash flood warnings), especially if you live in flood-prone or low-lying areas. Like it says in the warning, flooding can happen in a flash!
Storms on Sunday will end up bringing heavy rain to the Mid-Atlantic region, impacting the Delaware and NJ river basins.
