The Republican Party was formed in 1854 to end slavery. Eleven years later, that goal was accomplished when on June 19, 1865, Major General Gordon Granger arrived on the Island of Galveston and brought the people of Texas an order:

"The people of Texas are informed that, in accordance with a proclamation from the Executive of the United States, all slaves are free. This involves an absolute equality of personal rights and rights of property between former masters and slaves, and the connection heretofore existing between them becomes that between employer and hired labor. The freedmen are advised to remain quietly at their present homes and work for wages. They are informed that they will not be allowed to collect at military posts and that they will not be supported in idleness either there or elsewhere."

Curtis Bashaw is the Republican nominee for United States Senate. He is very thankful for everyone in the Somerset County Republican Organization who helped make is victory possible. Curtis was able to unite Somerset County Republican primary voters, receiving 64% of the primary vote. On to victory in November!

Somerset County occupies a unique place in history. The Stars and Stripes first flew over Somerset County during during the First Middlebrook Encampment in 1777 when General Washington and his troops established a position on the First Watchung Mountain in Bridgewater Township.

Public safety is an important issue in all of our towns. Francine Gargano has made public safety one of the centerpieces of her campaign in North Plainfield.

On this day, 80 years back, American and Allied troops took the fight to enemy shores on land and Democracy prevailed in the West over Fascism.

SCRO candidates Manville GOP Campaign 2024, Dan Croson and Lance Blick for Warren Township Committee, and North Plainfield scored resounding victories, as did the SCRO-endorsed candidates for County Committee.

Even stronger were the performances for our top-shelf candidates for federal office. Our hardworking Congressman Tom Kean earned 80% of the vote in our county. At 64% of the vote, Somerset County was Curtis Bashaw's fourth strongest county in the state. We look forward to working with our incredible candidates up and down the ballot to ensure success for the entire Republican team, especially Cuozzo & Ganta for Somerset County Commissioner.

Congratulations to Curtis Bashaw for U.S. Senate on his big win last night. Somerset County is proud to have delivered Curtis' fourth-largest victory in the state with 64%. Curtis is a transformational candidate for the Republican Party, and Menendez's Independent candidacy has created the perfect storm to elect a Republican to U.S. Senate for the first time since 1972.

Tonight is the start of real change, because our state and country are at a crossroads.
