This month, we will be donating to The Solidarity Fridge through our partnership with The Floret Coalition.

It is crucial to ensure that indigenous people are receiving assistance so that they have tools to overcome the disenfranchisement caused by colonization and oppression. The focus of this organization is "connecting with the land and making healthy food more accessible to underserved communities through local projects, education, and our community pantry & garden"-- BEAUTIFUL! 👏

In addition to The Solidarity Fridge, we will also be fundraising for from Nov-December through our Sowing Seeds for Community initiative.

Happy Halloween!! Did you know that Halloween, originally known as Samhain,, has its origins in the ancient Celtic festival of the same name, which marked the end of the harvest season and the beginning of winter? It was believed that on the night of October 31st, the boundary between the living and the dead blurred, allowing spirits to roam the earth. People would wear costumes and light bonfires to ward off evil spirits. When Christianity spread through Celtic lands, the holiday evolved into All Saints’ Day (November 1st) and All Souls’ Day (November 2nd), but many of the old traditions remained.

The association between cannabis and Halloween can be traced back to the counterculture movements of the 1960s and 1970s when w33d use became popular, especially among young people.

Cannabis-themed costumes and accessories also became popular in some circles, with people dressing up as stoner stereotypes or incorporating cannabis-related imagery into their Halloween decorations (ex: Tommy Chong, the dudes from Pineapple Express, Miley Cyrus’s bear costume when she smoked a blunt on stage lol).

However, as we all know, the use of cannabis during Halloween has not been universally accepted. In many places, cannabis still remains illegal, and public consumption can lead to legal issues. Unfortunately it is still BIPOC individuals who face the worst criminal charges and it’s crucial to remember that there’s major privilege in legal cannabis.

Not to mention all of the news channels spreading inaccurate messages about how “You children’s candy will be laced with weed” lol

Nevertheless, In recent years, as attitudes and laws surrounding cannabis have evolved, some individuals and businesses have embraced cannabis-themed Halloween events, such as “420-friendly” parties or costume contests.

Did you know that to have the best experience with edibles, you should NOT eat them on an empty stomach? If you’re one of those people who says you don’t get high from edibles, this is for you:

For THC to have a maximum effect, it must bind to a soluble fat. If a budtender knows what they’re doing, they’ll recommend you take edibles in addition to other foods. You’ll even hear people saying you should eat edibles (or take tinctures/capsules) with a fatty snack like some peanut butter, avocado, or even coconut oil. When it comes to edibles, fats are crucial because the fat and increases the bioavailability (absorption) of cannabinoids, resulting in an optimal full body experience.

Now, while eating edibles on a full stomach might take longer to kick in (because the cannabinoids will be digested thoroughly with your meal), they might just hit harder and last much longer. The slower “onset” feeling might also be helpful to you if you feel like you get anxiety from the suddenly intense activation edibles sometimes give folks. If you want to enjoy a longer, steadier, and overall more relaxed high, the best practice would be to eat something along with your infused product (especially something full of healthy fats!).

We do have some products, such as those by La Familia, Dr. Norms, or Kiva, that contain fats like butter, chocolate, and coconut oil in them already. If you ARE going to consume on an empty stomach, these products might just be more POTENT and last LONGER than, let’s say, a gummy which contains little or no fat!

Of course, every endocannabinoid system is different, so If you have any more questions about what could be right for you… just come on by and ask our lovely budtenders or research for yourself!!
