April 13 meeting guest Heather Rogers!

The Mid County Democratic Club welcomes our first County Public Defender, Heather Rogers. Heather is a champion for justice reform and accessing resources and services for people impacted by the system to address root causes. In case you missed it, she co-authored an opinion piece in Lookout that is a must-read. Heather was selected by the Board of Supervisors in October of 2021 and officially began in her new role in July of 2022. Luckily for Santa Cruz County, her path diverted from studying environmental law to becoming our first public defender.

The President approved California’s Disaster Declaration

The President approved California’s Disaster Declaration, which will open up Federal aid. Assistance can include grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses, and other programs for individuals and business owners to recover from the disaster. As you know, many homes and some businesses within our county were significantly impacted by the storms – this could provide some assistance.

Residents and business owners who sustained losses can begin applying for assistance at https://www.disasterassistance.gov – I’ve also attached some information sheets if helpful.

Anyone with questions is welcome to reach out to me - let me know if you need anything else.

Best-
Zach Friend

Take care today as we dry out a little bit. Please avoid the coast leaving room for residents, emergency response crews and clean up efforts.

If you would like social media photos and updates Native Santa Cruz on Twitter and Facebook has updates and footage.

The storm has caused significant damage throughout the county and along the coast, including heavy damage to piers in Capitola and Seacliff. High tide and large surf is a dangerous combination - avoid the coast.

Welcome our Mid County Assembly representative, Dawn Addis.
We are looking forward to working with you.
Congratulations

It’s official! I’m sworn in and ready to serve. I’m honored and excited to represent the Central Coast in Assembly District 30. It’s been an incredible day ~ more so because we are making huge change together. I’m the first Democrat to represent the majority of San Luis Obispo County in the State Assembly since 1947. I’m also the first Democrat from San Luis Obispo County to serve in the State Assembly since 1922, and I am the first Democratic woman ever to hold this seat. I look forward to solving our problems together.
