Ms. Wells (a pioneer in the field of social work) was a journalist, suffragist, and civil rights activist. She exposed the horrors of lynchings in America through her activism and raised awareness about violence and discrimination against African Americans.

In our culture of busy-ness, it is easy to lose track of time amidst the hustle and bustle. We can get so bogged down with responsibilities and obligations that we don't have any time for ourselves. Today, stop and take 10 minutes to center yourself. Forget about the to-do list or work piling up on your desk. Find a quiet place and try to relax your mind. Breathe. Have a cup of tea. Stretch. Whatever will help to decompress from the day, even if it's only 10 minutes.

Rest -
In what has been dubbed “hustle culture,” busy-ness is almost a badge of honor. In some
circles, determining who has the most on their plate has become a kind of subliminal
competition. However, constantly being on the go is terrible for your health. Sleep is the time
your body needs to recover from the wear and tear of daily life. It rejuvenates you. And while
sleep is a form of rest, it is not the only form of rest. Rest for some may be taking a break from
social media, saying no to an extra work project or volunteer opportunity, or beginning a daily
meditation practice, where you take time to intentionally be still and quiet your thoughts.
Whatever rest looks like for you, be sure you take the time to give your mind and body what
they need.
