Posted • Today, August 26, is National Women’s Equality Day! The day commemorates the 1920 certification of the 19th Amendment of the Constitution which gave women the right to vote. The Founders of Delta Sigma Theta joined the fight for women’s suffrage as their first public act in 1913 and we have been working on the frontlines ever since.

Black women fought for the right to vote for all women and continued the fight to secure voting rights for Black Americans for decades to come. The Voting Rights Act was not signed until 1965 providing the right to vote to Black men and women.

Our fight to protect voting rights and access to the ballot is far from over, however, today we renew our energy by honoring the fortitude of those that came before us.

The Social Action Committee of Central Jersey Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. conducted voter registration and voter education at The City of Plainfield's National Night Out on August 20, 2024. National Night Out is an annual event that provides opportunities for community building between city residents and the police department.

While the majority of participants CJA interacted with were registered to vote, we did add 4 new individuals to the voting rolls and encouraged scores more to check their voter registration status and make a voting plan.

Join us Sunday at Shiloh Baptist Church before and after service for another opportunity to register to vote and/or check your registration.

Members of Central Jersey Alumnae Chapter celebrated Independence Day today at the 100th Annual 4th of July Parade in Plainfield, NJ. A time was had greeting the spectators, passing out candy to children, and strolling. Thank you to the city of Plainfield ( ) for including us in this event - in the city of our chapter charter 49 years ago.

CJA along with several D9 chapters in the local area received a Community Service Award from the Gentlemen of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. Omicron Chi Ques at the James S. Avery Scholarship Ball! A great time was had by all!

On Saturday, June 1, 2024 at Shiloh Baptist Church in Plainfield, NJ Central Jersey Alumnae chapter hosted the Journey to Wellness – Self-Care Is Self-Love program which provided an opportunity for our community to come together for a day of wellness to exhale and relax. The activities of the day focused on care of the mind, body, spirit and financial wellness. Free preventive health screenings for adults included Blood Pressure, Mental Health/Trauma, Ortho/Posture, Diabetes and Pre-Diabetes, Stroke, Community Health and were conducted. Participants engaged in movement and meditation activities and the highlight of the day was a moderated panel with subject matter experts in medicine, psycho therapy, spirituality and financial wellness.

Self-care is self-love. On Saturday, June 1st, 2024, join the Central Jersey Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. for free adult health screenings, light exercise, and a panel discussion on self-care. The CJA EMBODI Committee is hosting a Spring Book Drive. All books will be donated to several male youth homes and organizations in the CJA service area. Please donate new and gently used books for young males ages 10-17 years old.

Middlesex County stood up today! Central Jersey Alumnae Chapter - Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc hosted our first Community Uplift & Engagement Committee Better Together Did Drive at Stop and Shop on Stelton Road in Piscataway. We thought we'd only collect about 200 items. Well, here we are, about 1800 items later!! 🙌🏾 Thank you shoppers! Suite 62 D.E.A.R.S. Game Day was a blast!
On Saturday, April 6th, sorors gathered in the spirit of sisterhood for an afternoon of fun, laughter, and friendly competition at Suite 62 D.E.A.R.S. Game Day. This event brought together seasoned and novice card enthusiasts for a memorable day of gameplay and connection.
For many, the highlight of the day was not just the games themselves, but the opportunity to reconnect with sorors and forge new connections. Whether reminiscing about past victories or sharing tales of triumph and defeat, each moment was cherished as a reminder of the vibrant sisterhood within CJA.

✨ Last night was pure magic at the Poetry Cypher event hosted by Central Jersey Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority! 📚🎤 Middlesex College was alive with the power of words as about poetry lovers came together to soak in the brilliance of 6 outstanding writers and performers. Huge thanks to all the poets who poured their hearts out, delivering soul-searching anthologies and real spoken word artistry. 🙌 Let’s keep the poetry flame burning bright! 🔥 📖✨
