Pet insurance PSA! Most of you know “Bean” but you might not know “Stevie” his cousin!

“Stevie” belongs to our office manager Morgan’s sister. While visiting Southport a couple of months ago we noticed a mass on his muzzle. He has since had $7,000 in workups and diagnostics done including a CT scan. He has been diagnosed with a fibro-sarcoma and begins his radiation treatment today. His radiation treatment will cost $10,000 for 3 days of treatment. His mom will only be paying for 10% of these payments! She did not have to hesitate due to financial constraints and will have more quality time with this special guy!

“Bean” (like many of the RRAH pets) also has pet insurance. We recommend it because we do it for our own! So of course we recommend it to our own family! Bean has benefited immensely from having pet insurance this year and would likely not be here without it!

Don’t be embarrassed!! We understand mistakes happen, and pets have mischievous minds of their own. We have a lot of people embarrassed their pet ate something they shouldn’t have or peed in the lobby, so to continue our goal of honesty that comes with the what would you do if it was your pet series, we will share a recent story.

Several staff members were having a puppy play date, and everyone was getting along great. Sometime during the evening, one dog snuck into the living room and found Bindi the bearded dragon’s mealworms and proceeded to open the container on the couch to help himself to some worms before sneaking back into the dinning room. No one noticed for hours…

RRAH’s Seth and Neuth are two examples of tortoises that are often mistaken as turtles. To be technical, they are african sulcata tortoises.
If you encounter a stranded sea turtle on the beach, please contact a local sea turtle protection program!

Below is some information we googled that might help you distinguish a few species! Our sea turtle season begins May 1st and we are so excited!!!

Diamondback terrapins live in the brackish water of salt marshes, estuaries, and tidal creeks. They feed on fish, marine snails, crabs, marine and tidal mollusks, carrion, clams, and worms. Life History: Adult terrapins nest on sandy borders of coastal salt marshes or in dunes.

Yellow Bellied Sliders are native to southeastern United States, specifically from Florida and parts of Virginia. HABITAT -They live in freshwater or brackish (a mix of fresh and salt water) water. DIET -As adults, they are omnivorous, and eat more plants. Juveniles will eat invertebrates.

Sea turtles live in almost every ocean basin throughout the world, nesting on tropical and subtropical beaches. They migrate long distances to feed, often crossing entire oceans.
