Hey SMA Family!

We will NOT be holding our Friday classes today at the temporary dojo in Wellford. The competition team will be in Hickory, NC competing in the TCT 5A Rated Mt View Open this weekend! Good Luck Team SMA! Even though we haven’t had a lot of practice time lately, I know these kids are ready to show up and show out! Let’s be home some hardware!

We will be back on the mat at the temporary dojo in Wellford on Monday! It’s Stripe Test Week!!! Be in full uniform with your belt and ready to work!

Look for info on the re-enrollment process for September coming soon. We are working hard to make this temporary dojo a great experience and working on getting back to the Westside of Spartanburg as soon as possible. Thank you for your love and support.

For the first wave of being back on the mat, I have chosen to do ALL RANKS class for the youth program in order to give everyone the maximum opportunity to make it to a class.

Good evening Parents,

We wanted to send an email clarification about karate classes for the Kickin' Kids After-schoolers. We know there is probably some confusion about karate classes being held at 311 Spartanburg Hwy, and wanted to make sure you all knew that was specifically for karate-only students. Our Kickin' Kids Afterschoolers will continue to take karate classes Monday-Thursday and progress through their stripes and belts with the Kickin' Kids program at Roebuck Baptist.

In regards to their uniforms, we know that many of your child(ren) lost their uniforms and belts due to the fire, and we will be replacing them. For the time being, you can send athletic wear so that your child(ren) will have comfortable clothes they can use for classes.

Unfortunately, we were unable to secure a facility to house both the karate only classes and the Kickin' Kids Afterschool Program, so your afterschool students WILL be taking their karate classes at Roebuck Church. It is not necessary to bring your children to another facility for karate, because karate is included with your afterschool tuition.

Thank you again for your patience and we are sorry for any confusion that may have been caused. Everyone has been so gracious to us throughout this process, and we are excited about the future Kickin' Kids.

We have received hundreds of messages of support and can't thank everyone enough for allowing us to feel that we weren't alone through this tragedy. It has been amazing to hear from countless students that have come through our program over the years, and to see such an outpouring of love. This special place has meant so much to so many people, and doesn't just belong to us, but to you all as well. While our hearts are broken, our will stays strong... and we will not be shaken by this. WELCOME BACK KICKIN' KIDS AFTER-SCHOOLERS!!! We are very excited about this school year, and know that you all will do your very best; both in the classroom, and in karate class!

PARENTS! We wanted to send you a few reminders about important Kickin' Kids policies/procedures, which should allow each afternoon here to run smoothly.

1. If your child(ren) is/are out sick, leave school early for any reason, and just simply won't be riding the bus... PLEASE ensure that you send us a message. Our bus drivers pick up multiple schools each day, and it would help tremendously for them to not have to wait on a child that ins't coming, because we weren't notified. Our text line is 864-662-6740, and we have staff ready to respond each day by 10am.

***Keep in mind, there will be a $15 no call fee, if a driver reports that a child (who was supposed to ride the bus) is absent from pickup at school.

2. Your child(ren) take karate twice per week, and we will be sending their uniforms home every Friday to be washed. Please ensure that they have their uniform each week for classes.

***NOTE: If your child(ren) haven't received a sling bag yet, don't worry. They are on order and should be in soon! We will make sure all of our new KK students are given a sling bag once the order arrives.

3. Carpool pickup at the side door doesn't begin until 4:00pm each day. So, if you arrive at the side door before 4:00pm, you will have to sign your child out at the front desk.

4. We do have a lost and found...so please let us know if your child(ren) is/are missing anything and we will do our best to find it for you. It is helpful if parents can write their child(ren)'s names in their clothing, which would help us to find their missing items quicker.

5. Our program closes at 6:00pm each day, so please ensure your child(ren) is/are picked up from our facility by 6:00pm each day. If for some reason, you will be late picking them up, please notify us immediately. We do have a $1 per minute late pickup fee, so please ensure that you arrive in a timely manner.

6. As a reminder, our policy on electronics has remained the same since the end of last school year..

-4K-1st Graders are NOT to have electronics of any kind while at Kickin' Kids. We have found that it's not productive for them to bring tablets/phones/etc. because it detracts from their social interactions with other children their age. And we want them to engage with other students as often as they can at this crucial point in their development.

-2nd-8th Graders are permitted to bring tablets/phones/etc., but are not allowed on them until after 4:00pm each day. This ensures that they are finishing their homework, engaging with other students, and also having some time on their electronics if they wish. We are happy to ensure that your child(ren) stay off of electronics as well while at Kickin' Kids...and if that is the case, just send us a message.

-We do NOT allow students on social media, YouTube, TikTok, or any form of internet social spaces. If we catch a student using one of these platforms, we will take the phone/tablet/computer away until pickup. Monitoring the children's electronic use is very important to us, and we will certainly notify parents of any inappropriate usage of devices.

With all that said, we know this school year will be great, and your child(ren) have a safe environment here; in which they can grow socially, mentally, and physically! Parents, we appreciate all you do for your children, and look forward to another great year!

STUDENTS!!! Reminder: Stripe testing is THIS WEEK! April 22-25, so don't forget to wear your full uniform and belt. We are excited to see all of our new promotions that will be handed out in class this week and wish our students luck during testing.

Parents: As a reminder, in order to be eligible for a stripe, the students must have attended at least half of the classes for the month.. So, if your child(ren) is/are brand new, or if your child(ren) haven't been to the required amount of classes; they will not be eligible for a stripe until May. We appreciate your understanding, and just want to make sure that parents/students are well informed as it relates to how eligibility works.

Our Kickin' Kids Summer Camp 2024 Calendars are finished, so we wanted to make sure to send these out to you! We will be handing out paper copies as well at pickup, but did want to send you all a PDF copy to look over for Summer. These outline field trips, various activities, and important notes for each day of camp!

Pay attention closely to the notes for each day, because there are certain days where campers might need a bathing suit, socks, signed waivers, etc. As well as the option to send extra money, depending on the type of field trip.

***Note that we don't provide lunch during camp, and the campers will need to bring a bag lunch daily unless specified otherwise on the calendar. Please pay attention to the days in which lunch is provided, because there are a few days here and there in which lunch will be provided on field trips.

ALSO: There are certain trips, such as the Children's Museum in Greenville, in which a bag lunch will need sent with your child(ren)... But they DO NOT have microwaves at the museum, so we recommend a sandwich, sub, lunchable, or anything that doesn't require a microwave. If you have any question at all about these types of trips, that don't have microwave access for lunches, please don't hesitate to call us!!!

Taught by a Black Belt Instructor and your child(ren) get to cut their birthday cake with a SAMURAI SWORD!!!

What's included?

1.5 hours for party games, activities, refreshments, cake, presents, etc.

***1 hour for martial arts fun and games, then the remaining 30 minutes is for refreshments, cake, presents, etc.

How many kids can attend? - 24 children (if more just let us know ahead of time)
