Answer :: The 1997 Riviera originally had a Delco PG260M Series starter (The Thru Bolts are external to the body of the starter)
If you still have this PG260M then the Brush Assembly is Item #5540489 and Drive is #6140375

The same starter in a PG260L series was also used on other models and possibly used as a replacement on your Riviera. The PG260L has internal Thru Bolts.
If you have the replacement version with internal Thru Bolts then the Brush Assembly is Item 5540494 and Drive is 6140995

❓❓❓❓ I am asking about the regulator in the item no. 11195RK Camry Alternator Kit;, its set voltage is 14.1v as in the description, can it make the alternator to produce that in a 2.4L Camry at idle speed about 750-800 RPM ? Or that value of 14.1 falls into a range of upper & lower limits? Thank you.

Answer🤓 Regulator Voltage Set Points are a stand alone setting within the regulator. On a vehicle the number of factors that cause voltage to be out of range are 1.) Battery Condition, 2.)Voltage Regulator or other internal alternator fault 3.)Corrosion and cable/wire condition resistance 4.) Faulty or added electronic components drawing more current than alternator can compensate for at its capability 5.) Belt slippage 6.) Any condition that causes the vehicle's RPM to drop below necessary specs at idle....

In our experience, the not charge at idle has never been the cause of the alternator. Anything is possible with the nature of electronics but if an alternator performs at higher speeds, something else is causing the idle issue

Regardless of the 182 years of master technician, certified, bonified experience here are just few examples of technicians installing several of our good alternators on cars that would not charge at idle AND regardless that they 'Checked all of that and everything else works great' :(

1.)Multiple Models: Battery has a weak cell or bad ground causing the alternator to work over its idle amperage capacity at Idle which voltage loss is the result. Batteries that are weak and not at 100% can still start the vehicle and appear OK, but cause more strain on the charging system and can cause voltage losses.

2.)Matrix: Bad Fan Relay drawing more current than the alternator can compensate for at idle

3.)Odyssey: Clogged fuel injectors causing low idle RPM and alternator can not 'turn on' until higher RPM reached

4.)BMW Dealer installed a starter on 325i and did not correctly tighten the B+ cable at starter. As the nut backed off more and more, arcing voltage caused bad idle charge (they demanded alternator after alternator without troubleshooting and discovering their previous screwup to waste everyone's time and way too much money with zero liability on them)

There are many more stories to the low idle and none of them ended up being a bad alternator.; But a situation that the alternator can not compensate for. An overworked alternator will prematurely fail so any low out of range voltage must be addressed to prevent damage to other components.

QUESTION: Will a faulty regulator drain the battery?

ANSWER: If you have a 'KEY OFF' drain, then any faulty electrical component or connection in the vehicle could cause this. (Example: a simple dome light to the regulator staying 'ON')

If it drains while the car runs then the regulator or any resistance preventing stable good voltage will drain the battery. (Example: A fan relay drawing too much current to a bad regulator preventing the alternator from working)

The most overlooked and obvious problem with battery voltage issues is the battery itself. The most common regulator return reason is that 'it turned out to be a bad battery'

But we have even seen clogged fuel injectors preventing a Toyota Sienna from idling a the proper RPM prevent the alternator from charging and draining the battery. A fuel injection service fixed the issue.

But answer is yes; a faulty regulator will drain the battery. If it is staying active or 'ON', it will drain the battery with the KEY OFF. If it is not regulating within specifications, the battery will drain or overcharge damaging the cells.

A Regulator staying on during a "KEY OFF' issue could also be from a faulty ignition switch, relay or wire in the regulator circuit.

There are many things we have seen shops and part stores 'diagnose' as a bad voltage regulator; From a bad rotor connection that mimics a faulty regulator to bad fuse, or loose belt, or battery condition. The problem usually lies with the trouble-shooting or lack there of to 'diagnose'. Please understand that 'shop' 'professional' 'master tech' '83 years of experience' and ALL things about professional auto repair has no absolute science and hardly meaningful . Any decent technician will easily admit the absolute failures in the industry (if this post offends them, they are not an honest mechanic). The absolute best results on anything auto repair are the do-it-yourselfers. Even with complete lack of experience, a DIYer will have a better track record with their vehicle than even a dealership (I know there are exceptions). This does not mean that all mechanics/technicians bad. They all get stuff wrong, but not all are bad and dishonest. The nature of the mis-diagnoses makes almost the best of them dishonest when they have sold you on a repair that has been performed already. There is almost never that you will not be charged for unnecessary repairs already done or even know they were unnecessary. A correct repair will be done without your knowledge if it was something super simple and over-looked or if not simple you will be sold additional repairs that 'showed faulty after the first repair done OR were able to be checked after the initial repair'....

There is a good reason REDUCE and REUSE both come before RECYCLE.
Even the "reduce -> reuse -> recycle" model comes with waste..
