❓ Question: I had my alternator tested after installing the kit, the machine said the voltage regulator failed. My question is if the rectifier is bad would everything bad?
🙂 Answer: A bad rectifier would fail the ripple test part of a bench test. When the rectifier is bad everything can be haywire, but if it passed the ripple part, that shouldn't be the issue. A bad rotor is one of the internals that would test as a seemingly bad regulator on a good bench test. The bench test is a good way to isolate the alternator for checking, but also part stores must know a or b circuit switching and we have seen both an Orielly's and Autozone try to run one test after another with a bad 12 volt battery for the vehicle circuit, causing all testing to be faulty. So maybe get another store to run a check too for back up test. Anyways, anything is possible, but this kit is wildly popular and without failure or issues. Sending a bad regulator would be very unexpected. If you want to try another or make other arrangements just let me know

❓Question: I have a Subaru "Sambar" from Japan. I have ordered this rectifier from you. However, now I am seeing I need a rotor.

The numbers on the alternator are DENSO IC Regulator Built-In 23700KA630 12V 100211-9440. #1002119440

I looked on your website, but no way to look up by part number, and it needed the vehicle, which is not listed.

Looking at the pictures, it seems to match either your 288202 or 288201. I see it matches the 100211, but does not have the 9440 listed.

Voltage fluctuations that cause light dimming is a symptom to troubleshoot; headlight Circuit, grounds, relays, battery condition, loose belt, and even clogged fuel injectors that cause unstable idle speed have caused this condition. If you installed a new alternator and have this symptom you will need to troubleshoot why to diagnose if the alternator is the problem. Thank you

❓ Question: I have 2008 Tahoe 4.8L LS model but have added many extras to where it is almost a LTZ, so there is more of an electrical demand. My alternator is going bad , it is a DR44 160A and it is only showing 11.55 volts at the hot wire. Would replacing the regulator fix it. the alternator is probably the original one so should I just get a new one?
Answer: Maybe.
Voltage could be relative to the demand at the time. If the demand on the alternator exceeds its capabilities at any given time then the voltage drops and even drops way out of specifications. The RVC system on the 2008 Tahoe can have voltages between 12-15 depending on duty cycle signals through the sensors and modules.

An over demand voltage loss can sometimes not even trigger the charge system / battery light. The usual culprit is a weak, bad or discharged battery, corrosion, and/or added accessories. But on RVC systems even a failing battery sensor can cause a false duty cycle setting and the battery consequently gets discharged. This causes voltage loss as the alternator is then working to 'charge up' a weak battery that has become an excessive load.
