Found a nice one last night. We didn’t have much blood so I stood at the hit sight and was waiting for Ruth to figure out which way the deer ran. She ran around for a min and went just out of sight behind an old tree and stopped dead in her tracks. I was watching her on the garmin and she didn’t move for a few minutes and I knew she found the deer. Total track was less than 120 yards.

Had fun and exciting track Sunday. I found out the hard way that I cannot fly. You can see the sudden elevation change.

Got a call this afternoon about a track. The hunter said he shot it this morning and on his way out he accidentally jumped the deer. He paid attention to the way it ran off and didn’t try and push the deer. He did the right thing and backed out and called in a dog.

We were able to show up around 4:30 this afternoon and we started at the bed. Ruth ended up backtracking us to the hit sight. So I pushed the track back and away from where the deer was shot and Ruth picked up on the scent. We went about another 500 yards and we were waiting for her to figure out which way it went, when I looked to our left and saw the buck dead about 20 yards away. We waited for Ruth to finish the track.

Got a call tonight around 8:22 tonight from a good buddy of mine that said his friend shot a stud around 7:20 this afternoon. He waited about 20 minutes after the shot to go look for blood.

The hunter found decent blood for about 20 yards then it started fading out to just droplets so he backed out and called us. We got there around 9 o’clock tonight and took our time getting ready and getting out of the truck. Once we got to the hit sight Ruth found the blood and took off. She worked through the first scent pool in a field and crossed through some bamboo.

We found some blood in the bamboo patch and we came to another field were Ruth took her time and found where the buck went into the thicket. Once we went into the thicket we found blood. Ruth came to a simi torn down fence and needed some help getting over it. Once we got over she went about 20 yards and stopped. We couldn’t see her due to how thick it was but I saw on the garmin where she had stopped and wasn’t moving. I knew she had found the deer.

The hunter did the right thing in backing out and calling a dog.

Got a call around 8:30 this morning stating they needed a tracking dog. The hunter made a great shot for how the buck was facing, quartering away he did hit gut but also blew up one lung. He jumped the deer about an hour after the shot. And we arrived around 3 and a half hours later. Ruth jumped the deer and he took off. Ruth waited for us to catch up and we were off again. We found him bedded down again about 40 yards away. Once again he jumped up and ran but I could tell he was hit hard and pushing him wasn’t going to be a problem. We caught back up to him within 30 yards. Owe almost stepped on him due to the thick brush and briars. One he hopped up and took off Ruth was right on him. He went another 20 yards and fell as soon as she got to him. He turned to make his final stand. Ruth got flipped up in the air and she landed hard. But before the buck could go after her again. I finished him off. The whole track was only .29 miles but it was packed with adventure. This was definitely one to remember.
