Pop Art Spartanburg!
I have been interested in Spartanburg since I was little. I remember may father giving me rides downtown to Saint Paul’s Catholic School for years. We lived at that time in Spartanburg’s westside. I remember looking at and being fascinated at the sights all around downtown Spartanburg. I loved Pete’s Restaurant and Heinitsh-Walker Drug Store’s neon signage. I sternly saluting the General Daniel Morgan Statue as we passed by. I marveled at the beautiful buildings in Morgan Square like the Andrew’s Building that sadly collapsed just before being demolished, killing 5 men on the construction crew. Eventually I took up photography in High School after purchasing a Pentax K-1000. While in college at Spartanburg Methodist College I really got to see a lot of the city. The things I focused on were buildings and streetscapes in downtown. I used to ride the city bus (I still do!) to town to explore after classes. The Franklin Hotel, the Deluxe Diner, Palmetto Theater, JCPenny, Aug W. Smith, Woolworth’s, Silver’s and so many more attracted my camera eye. Unfortunately I lost many original prints and almost all of my negatives to water damage in my home in the 1990’s.
SparkleCitySnaps is a way for me to share my images and photo prints I shot that I still have in my archives. I have shot Spartanburg’s past, but also shoot images today! I have a shop booth at Market On Main Spartanburg at 156 East Main Street, in downtown Spartanburg. There I am offering art and gifts with images from the past and present in a Pop-Art colorful style that I love so well. You can see what I am up to on the web at www.sparklecitysnaps.com and on Instagram www.instagram.com/sparklecitysnaps.
I am also a graphic designer with a home-based business in Spartanburg specializing in advertising, digital and print design www.nicktrainor.com
