Grief Companion - You are not ALONE
My life changed 4/2/2019. My son, Jesse, passed away. My journey through grief brought me here. I chose this because I see a need.
I am a grief educator as a result of taking David Kessler's Grief Educator Course. When my son passed away on 4/2/2019, I was alone for the first 2 years. Then I heard about David Kessler and Tender Hearts. I joined Tender Hearts and my journey in grief then began to progress. Being with others who have experienced the same loss and sharing from our hearts weekly made all the difference for me. I am grateful and want to give back to others who are struggling and/or stuck and feel alone.
A poem I found in my FB feed:
There are going to be times in life when death steals the people that you love from you. When grief swoops in and descends hungrily and heavily and leaves you feeling empty.
And at those times, it can be hard to get out of bed and open the curtains; to let the light in.
It can be hard to leave the house and speak to people; to let the world in.
It can be hard to know how to go on living when the person you love could not. Hard to see the point in moving forward without them by your side.
But there is one certainty in life.
And that is death.
And one day it will steal you too.
And when that time comes,
wouldn’t it be wonderful to be able to regale your loved ones with tales of the adventures you were able to keep having?
Wouldn’t it be wonderful to tell them how you took them with you in your heart and how you felt them by your side every step of the way?
Yes.
Wouldn’t it be wonderful to live a life that is so full,
that you simply cannot wait to tell them about it
when you meet again?
My message to my son for Son's Day yesterday ... it's been 4 1/2 years and I can feel some movement from despair to love and gratitude.
Happy Son's Day Jesse!
I'm so eternally grateful that you were my son. The gifts that you brought in to my life are too many to list but I will name a few:
* Trusted friend .. I cherish our conversations over the years. It meant the world to me that you trusted me. I valued your thoughts and opinions!
* Sense of humor .. Whether you were being a prankster or sharing your hilarious ability to tell stories, you brought so much laughter and joy to my life.
*. Kind and gentle heart .. Thank you for your kind and gentle ways, whether with animals, family, or friends. Your heart melted in the presence of babies. At Christmas, you were able to get unique presents for the people in your life because you invested the time to get to know each one on a deep level.
* Generous heart .. you gave the gift of life to many parents who otherwise could not have children. As a result, I have several of your offspring in my life. I can see different parts of you in each of them. It is such an honor for me and I'm proud of you for giving this gift of life, not knowing if you would ever meet them. You would be so proud of each and every one of them! I know you are smiling down and watching over them.
I miss you every day, but SO grateful that you were my son!!
Love Always,
Mom
Something a Grief Educator does ...
My life changed on 4/2/2019 ... the day my son passed away. As a result of my grief journey and those that helped me along the way, I want to give back to others on this painful journey. To this end, I believed the best way to accomplish this was to become a Certified Grief Educator. What is a Certified Grief Educator? A Certified Grief Educator is committed to providing the highest level of grief support through education, experience, and insights into the often unacknowledged rocky terrain of grief. Certified Grief Educators completed a certificate program designed by world-renowned grief expert, David Kessler.
It would be my honor to offer weekly 1:1 sessions to support you on your grief journey. Please call or email me if you are interested.
Is it good to exercise when grieving?
When you're grieving, it can be difficult to focus on anything other than your loss. Exercise provides a distraction by allowing you to focus on your body and your physical movements. It can help you take your mind off your grief and provide a temporary break from your emotions.
"Do not judge the bereaved mother.
She comes in many forms.
She is breathing, but she is dying.
She may look young, but inside she has become ancient.
She smiles, but her heart sobs.
She walks, she talks, she cooks, she cleans, she works,
she IS, but she IS NOT... all at once.
She is here, but part of her is elsewhere for eternity."
