PREPAREDNESS LEVEL - WASHINGTON STATE: just a reminder of the current preparedness level status. Both the PNW and the National PL are now at 5 (the highest level). This indicates a majority of wildland fire resources are being committed due to increased wildfire activity.
: As of today, July 18, the national has increased to PL5.
Significant wildland fire activity is now occurring in most geographic areas with a high potential for additional large wildland fires to emerge. National resources like hotshot crews, airtankers, smokejumpers and communications equipment, are heavily committed and the National Interagency Coordination Center is coordinating requests for these resources with geographic area coordination centers. Active geographic areas are intensively engaged in prioritization of incidents and reallocation of resources as needed to ensure effective incident operations.
The National Multi-Agency Coordination Group establishes the level throughout the year. Their decision is dictated by fuel and weather conditions, fire activity, and fire suppression resource availability throughout the country. The five preparedness levels range from the lowest (1) to the highest (5). For more information on preparedness levels visit our website here ➡ https://www.nifc.gov/fire-information

Minnesota is one of the areas impacted by snow drought this winter. On Feb. 29, the US National Weather Service Duluth Minnesota reported that the area had received only 18.7 inches of snowfall for the winter so far, one of the least snowy seasons on record for the area. Due to dry conditions and a record-low Snow Water Equivalent, the state’s spring wildfire season started earlier than usual.
According to the NOAA NWS Climate Prediction Center Seasonal Drought Outlook, drought is expected to persist throughout much of Minnesota. Development is forecast in the northeast and northwest corners, plus a blip in the southeast part of the state.
In celebration of International Women's Day, we would like to recognize one of our esteemed team members, Anastasia.
Hailing from Ohio, Anastasia has demonstrated an unwavering passion for her work as a Wildland Firefighter and EMT for the past two years. Her dedication is deeply rooted in the inspiration she draws from her mother.
Presently, Anastasia is enrolled at the University of Nevada-Reno, where she is diligently pursuing a degree in Public Health, accompanied by a minor in microbiology and virology. We consider ourselves fortunate to have Anastasia as a valuable member of our team, and we eagerly anticipate witnessing her exceptional trajectory in the future.
