There are boxes used to grow these in, makes harvest easier and keeps the root contained. And now you know!

Do you grow elderberries? Babies coming up!
Ants πππ
Have you ever wondered what they are good for?
Ants perform vital role in garden and in the environment Ants are the most successful groups of insects in the animal kingdom. They are of great interest because they are a social insect and form highly organized colonies or nests. It is estimated that β¦
This lovely little bloomer is knick knick,a native ground cover, evergreen, edible, medicinal and just darn cute.
Spring is my favorite time of year, how about you?
I love seeing all the new growth and flowers popping up.
This is lemon catnip, that color π
the new growth color, it won't stay but I'll enjoy it for now
Catnip is a wonderful plant if you can keep the cats from destroying it. We had a dog that loved catnip, apparently for dogs it is calming and helps them sleep. Same for humans.
This kale made it through winter with flying colors!
The dog enjoys it too!
Isn't this a pretty little plant, lovely color.
Ironically it won't be little for long, this is lovage and will be at least 5 foot tall if not taller!
I've got quite a few lovage potted up waiting for you to take them home and plant them in your garden.
I was introduced to lovage a few years ago, Holly told me the plants are cooling and when it's hot out hug the plant. Sounds funny but when it's a hot day out give it a try.
Lovage is edible from top to bottom, the roots can be cooked and eaten as a vegetable, the leaves dried and added to foods as can the seeds.
Now that has me wondering, what does one do with the stalks? I compost them.
Gallon sized are $8.00
In the garden minding my own business when I bumped into something, turned around to discover the Nanking cherry is flowering.
My Grandma Olive used Nanking cherries to make jam and such, she picked from a row of them. At the time I had never heard of them, she went on to explain it's basically a cherry bush, super hardy.
They are super hardy and what a pretty little shrub, they can get huge but this one will be kept smaller.
Anyone else grow these much less eat them? I will be eating these, knowing me from the plant straight into my mouth π
Spring flowers β€
Perennial vegetables are amazing. Here are three of the plants that need very little from us but reward us with plenty.
All very different plants though-
Rhubarb, Nettles and Horseradish!
Rhubarb and horseradish are freshly mulched with compost made from the w**ds and debris in the garden, the compost pile is about 4 years old and this compost is only used for the garden and not potted plants.
The back of the pile will be left intact as that's where the nettles live.
I will have a few of these plants available soon.
Red orach is one of the most beautiful vegetables you can grow and it's quite versatile. Baby leaves go in smoothies, salads or just eat straight from plant. Older leaves sliced in ribbons are silky in soups, freeze extra for winter. Another fantastic idea is to dehydrate and puree, add a tablespoon or 2 to almost everything you cook, except maybe dessert but don't put it past meπ
Another use is when fermenting red onions, the onions lose much of their color in the process but topping the jar with an orach leaf helps to maintain the color.
Sliced and added to a fermented greens dish is another way to enjoy it. Fermenting improves nutrition, in case you didn't know.
Red orach isn't a perennial vegetable but it does grow all summer into a majestic garden plant, edible landscaping! Oh and self sows, babies are either eaten or transplanted to the appropriate spot.
A quick internet search gives you the health info.
Plants will be available soon, a whole $2
Planted the ginger and turmeric, I'd say about 12 of each. There are some 2 year old plants, they look a little tired from spending the winter inside but they will look great soon and it doesn't affect the roots! Those leaves are super fragrant, makes them enjoyable to work with..
The bunny loves eating the leaves so she gets em as they dry up and a few of the green ones too.
Bunny makes lots of poo that's going in the planting soil.
Hopi t plants will be available soon
Hopi To***co is a stunning addition to any heirloom garden!
Hopi To***co produces beautiful compact plants with spikes of fragrant yellow and green flowers with a hint of jasmine fragrance!
Nicotiana Rustica, from the peoples of the Four Corners area is an amazing plant of many uses from medicinal applications to an organic pesticide, Hopi To***coβs simplistic beauty, versatility and historical value makes it a must have for any garden!
The Native Americans believed to***co is a spiritual absorbent and would only use it for connecting with the creator. So as not to absorb βbadβ spirits, they would smoke it in pipes. It is still used today, but the Hopi To***co is definitely NOT recommended for smoking as it has a super high 9% ni****ne content, while today's modern strains contain 1%-3%. The high ni****ne content in Hopi To***co causes nausea and hallucinations, and because to***co is a poison, high amounts can lead to death! For the Native Americans the sacred nicotiana rustica plant was never to be abused or misused!
Hopi To***co today is often used as a natural pesticide option. Crushed dried leaves soaked in water for 24 hours, and you have yourself an all natural, highly effective and safe pesticide. The more to***co the stronger the mixture, increase potency as needed. Please be careful when using in the vicinity of our little bee friends, as organic to***co pesticides can be harmful to the little fellas!!!
Today was spent potting up ginger, turmeric and just a few Thai ginger/galangal. Hawaiian sourced and organic. Planted them in homegrown compost and leaf mulch, oh and bunny poo π
