Did you know that Father's Day originated in Spokane?
Whether you go by "Dad," "Father," "Pops" or any version of the title, today is the day we celebrate you! Thank you for all you do day-in and day-out... even the bad dad jokes!
Due to known delays in the mail service, we are extending our deadline for the Senior Scholarship application to Monday, July 1st, 2024. This is for established patients in our practice who graduated and the funds can be used towards additional educational expenses.
If you need a form, please stop by the office. They can be submitted by mail, in-person or via email to [email protected].
We know many families are celebrating their graduates right now, and we want to congratulate all of those who have graduated from high school these last few weeks! We also want to congratulate the parents on a job well-done. Raising a child to become an independent adult is no easy feat, and you should pat yourselves on the back.
So, as we say around our office, "We believe in the magic of new beginnings." Graduates, best wishes on your next adventures and all of those new beginnings!

When you are a new parent and totally sleep-deprived, it can be hard not to give into the temptation to have your baby in bed with you. This article has some great tips to help keep your baby safe and prevent SIDS.
Safe Sleep Tips for Sleep-Deprived Parents The American Academy of Pediatrics shares practical tips for sleep-deprived new parents on coping with the challenges of safe sleep for their newborns. Learn about routines, baby sleep cycles and self-soothing techniques.
We want to acknowledge and celebrate graduating high school seniors who are patients in our practice by offering up to two $500 scholarships to be put towards higher education. Applications are due by June 15th. Applications are available in our office at the front desk.
Happy Mother's Day! Being a mom can be a tireless job but know that we see you and all you do. On a daily basis, we see moms who are eagerly awaiting their newborns' arrivals, moms who are exhausted as they start on their motherhood journey with their baby, moms who are in the thick of things with school age or teenage children, moms who are taking their children off to college or helping them settle into adulthood, and moms who have had to say goodbye too early to a child. This goes out to all of the moms, stepmoms, and those who have served in a mom role for someone. Thank you for all you do every day! We love you!
May is a month that highlights so many people we are thankful for.
Last week recognized Administrative Professionals Day, and we thank Kina (our practice administrator) and Shannon (our medical biller) for all the hard work they put into making our office what it is.
Monday was Nurses Day. Marci joined us last fall, and we can't imagine our lives without her. She talks parents through stressful situations, helps coordinate our complex patients' care, and brings the best smile and laugh to our day.
Today is Receptionists Day. Julie, Geo and Ann-Luise are the first voices and faces that our patients and their families interact with, and we appreciate how hard they work to keep us in-line and get our patients in when they need to be seen. They do it all with a smile and such energy!
Yes, these may be days on a calendar, but the bottom line is that we appreciate all of our staff every day and hope they realize that. Thank you from the bottoms of our hearts! 🧡
(Don't worry, moms. You'll get your own shoutout Sunday!) 🌷
We now offer in-office lipid screening from a simple finger poke. This will be incorporated into our well child checks at the recommended ages (9-11 years and 17-21 years) in addition to being available for those patients who are high-risk.
Be sure to plan ahead for your appointment! 👷🏼♀️
Thanks, The Kids Clinic, for posting this. We couldn't agree more!
AAP leaders call decision to pull harmful weighted sleep products a 'strong first step' Following years of advocacy, AAP leaders say the decision by several major retailers to stop selling harmful infant weighted sleep products is a strong first step.
Check out this interesting article from the Washington Post. If you find yourself, grabbing for the higher sugar/carb snack foods for the kids after daycare, maybe think about substituting a string cheese, vegetable or fruit.
The hour after leaving day care is a nutritional fail for kids, study finds Children ate more added sugar, snack foods and sweetened drinks in the transition from child care to home.
We get asked often where is the best place to take a child for ear piercing. We have always recommended going to a place that is used to dealing with children, that upholds strict hygiene practices and has the ability to do both ears at once if possible. These are the reasons why we decided to start offering ear piercing in our office using a medical-grade piercing system. If you are interested, call 509-352-3777 to learn more.
We also offer the ability to purchase the ear piercing for a friend or family member as a gift.
Tantrums are one of the most common topics that we discuss with families. We know that increased amounts of screen time can definitely lead to behavioral issues, and here is a great article from the AAP's HealthyChildren.org
Screen Time & Temper Tantrums: Helpful Tips for Parents Children may scream, cry or even fight back physically when they're asked to turn off their devices. These meltdowns can disrupt everyone's day, eventually turning into power struggles that move you farther from your goal of balanced, healthy tech use. Learn how tech can influence a child's mental a...
We know that childhood illnesses don't take the weekends off!
We will be having a Saturday morning clinic this Saturday, March 2nd from 9am-noon. Please call between 9am-11am to get your child scheduled.
As you probably have heard by now, measles cases are popping up across the country and have now been confirmed in the Spokane area. Measles can be a dangerous illness, and we want to keep everyone safe.
🩹The recommended ages for MMR vaccination are 12 months and 4 years.
🩹If a child is going to be traveling internationally or to one of the areas with confirmed cases, we can give a dose of MMR as young as 6 months. (The child will still need a dose at 12 months and 4 years.)
🩹The 2 doses of MMR vaccine only need to be spaced by 4 weeks, so we are happy to get that second MMR dose in before the 4 year check-up.
Let us know if you have any questions about your child's vaccines or want to schedule a vaccine visit.
This week (February 26th-March 3rd) is National Eating Disorder Awareness Week. Eating disorders can come in many forms, and we are here to help care for your child and family if this is something you are dealing with. You are never alone in your battles!

We hope every one of our patients and families knows how much love we have for you. Today we celebrate love and all the shapes and forms it comes in!
Our Saturday clinic is open, but unfortunately the phone lines aren't allowing incoming calls. If you would like your child seen this morning, please just walk in to the office between 9 and 11am.
We know how unpredictable a child's illness can be. That's why we will be open this Saturday, February 10th from 9am-noon seeing patients. Please call between 9am and 11am that morning to get your child scheduled and go into the weekend with the only unknown being who walks away the Super Bowl LVIII champions! 🏈

How can you keep your child busy on a chilly winter Sunday from noon-2pm?
Spokane Public Schools has Open Gym available at some of the middle schools and high schools around town on Sundays between now and spring break.
Get those wiggles out and stay warm!
Temperatures are dropping down to single digits and perhaps even into the negative these next few days. Please be sure that you and your family are prepared.
1. You should dress very warmly when outside and be sure to cover areas of skin which may be affected by cold air and wind such as ears, noses and cheeks.
2. Avoid any prolonged periods outside. Children often have so much fun playing outside in the snow that they don't realize that their bodies are getting too cold.
3. If you have a space heater, fireplace or heating grates which get warm, please make sure children cannot get to them as they risk burns from touching the hot metal.
4. Never run a generator indoors.
5. Do not use a gas oven to heat your house.
6. Bring pets inside.
7. Pack a bag for your vehicle that includes blankets, an extra winter coat and snow boots.
Stay safe during this cold snap.
