Confidence. That’s the word I would use to describe what 2BU Youth Ranch has given my daughter, Clare. Not being around horses all that much or knowing much about them, Clare started lessons in the spring of this year. It takes us about 20 minutes to get up the ranch and during that time, my sweet, quiet girl turns into what I like to call, “Chatty Cathy” (As her mom, I absolutely LOVE those times!). During those drive times, she has expressed to me that the ranch is the one place where she can relax and just be herself. Nancy, Cierra and the volunteers have taught her so much about caring for and riding horses. One of the neatest things to watch is growth in my daughter’s confidence with and around the horses. Not only that, but each lesson has given her more confidence in herself. She even expressed to me recently that going to the ranch has given her confidence in other activities she is involved with, specifically softball which Clare really enjoys. I love how Nancy tells Clare to use her voice when communicating to the horses which I think has helped her better communicate in her life in general. As her mom, I’ve noticed that my sweet, quiet girl has come out of her shell more over the past few months. I ultimately attribute that to God helping her see who she is in Him. I also give credit to the 2BU Youth Ranch & staff for helping her see that she can do it and she CAN use her voice.
