Lutheran Hour Ministries LHM is a Christian outreach ministry that provides The Lutheran Hour radio program, daily devotions, help topics and booklets, evangelism training, outreach resources for churches, Bible correspondence courses, international ministries, volunteer trips and service projects.

Thank you to everyone who came out to our Flea Market/Garage Sale this past Saturday! We all had a blast, and raised over $4000 to put toward a new sound system for our sanctuary!

Extra special thanks to our team of volunteers who worked TIRELESSLY to make this event possible!

MUSICAL MONDAY - This Sunday will feature a hymn written by Carl Ferdinand Wilhelm Walther, one of the original founders of the LCMS. The hymn, "He's Risen, He's Risen," was written on April 8th, 1860 and is number 480 in the LSB.

Walther's health had begun to fail as he worked endlessly establishing the LCMS as well as what is now known as Concordia Seminary. He decided to travel back to his home in Germany for a much-needed rest. On that voyage he wrote this hymn which was later translated into English by Anna M. Meyer. His own note says, "on the first Easter Day, April 8, 1860, on the Ocean."

MUSICAL MONDAY - This Sunday will feature a hymn written by the one and only Martin Luther in 1524, "Gott Sei Gelobet Und Gebenedeiet." The English version, "O Lord, We Praise Thee" is number 617 in the Lutheran Service Book.

Luther took the original first stanza and melody from a 14th century Leise and added 2 stanzas of his own. Luther appreciated that the first stanza focused on the sacrament of bread and wine, not on sacrifice. His added stanzas focused on anamnesis of the gifts of redemption, and prayers for spiritual fruits of the sacrament for the individual life of the Christian, and for the community. Luther intended for this song to be used in thanks during communion, and this is exactly how we intend to use it this Sunday at St. John's!
