May we never forget the meaning of this “holiday”. The ultimate sacrifice for our daily freedoms we all take for granted. Kids without their parent, parents without their children, grandparents, aunts/uncles/friends never to return to our earth for their souls rest in heaven. We honor them today and everyday! Farm to table at its finest! When James gets to hunt and bring home dinner, it’s a win for us all. He prepared pheasant schnitzel with sautéed green beans and a simple salad drizzled with balsamic, served with Peyrassol La Croix Rose

Today begins National Womens Month! I intend to highlight women winemakers this month starting with a beautiful winemaker who should be on everyone’s radar. I recently returned from Napa where we were invited to attend Cathiard Vineyards’ soft opening. This property was acquired in 2020 by Daniel and Florence Cathiard, owners of the world renowned Bordeaux winery, Smith Haut Lafitte. The property where Cathiard now sits originally belonged to the Rennie brothers who came to the United States from Scotland. After arriving the brothers planted their first vines in 1885. They were the first to use gas powered grape crushers and built a stone gravity flow winery that had many successful vintages. The property sat dormant for a number of years during and after Prohibition, and then was purchased by Louis Martini in 1933. The property is simply spectacular, located at the base of the Mayacamas mountains and spans through the Rutherford and St Helena AVAs. Justine Labbé is the General Manager and Head Winemaker. Her wine, “Founding Brothers” pays homage to the Rennie Brothers, and is a beautiful blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cab Franc. They have two other wines as well. The second wine, “Hora” is a group of goddesses that represent the change of seasons. The label is a representation of the Autumn goddess statue on-site, which is apropos considering the grapes are harvested in the fall. The estate’s flagship wine is Cathiard Vineyard, which is a 100% estate grown Cabernet Sauvignon. The Cathiard’s will also be incorporating a cooperage in the cellar on site, similar to their operation at Smith Haut Lafitte. I hope you will join me in saluting our first female winemaker of the month! Congrats Justine! I’m excited for the future!

Today marks the Lunar New Year and the year of the bunny. Sitting here thinking, wine…bunny… what could I find and my mind immediately drifted back to our beautiful tasting this past Spring at Smith Haut Lafitte. On property are a number of iconic sculptures meticulously placed throughout the vineyards. One of the most iconic is The Leaping Hare by Barry Flanagan.
