Annual Music Competition FIRST $7,000* | SECOND $3,500 | THIRD $1,500 place prizes. First Place winner may be invited to perform with the Springfield Symphony.
Our goals are to develop a format and an organization which functions to accomplish the following mission statement:
• To foster an environment that welcomes participation of talented and aspiring young (18 - 26 years of age) musicians whatever their musical discipline, and to provide for each competitor high expertise in the evaluation and judging of their performances relative to their peers.

Applications for the 28th Annual Hellam Young Artists' Competition are now officially open! Must be an instrumentalist between 18 and 26 years of age and enrolled in undergraduate or graduate studies, or must have graduated within the last year. First prize is $7,000. The Hellam Young Artists' Competition website has been updated. Also, the opening date for uploading an application to the Acceptd.com site is August 1, 2022.
We are looking forward to having a "live" competition in 2023. 😀
2023 Hellam Young Artists' Competition returns to live performances on April1,2023, in Springfield, Missouri. An updated website will be posted soon.

Due to Covid concerns, the Hellam Young Artists' Competition will be going virtual again this year. We will not have live performances on March 26, 2022.

The Acceptd site will become active on May 1, 2021.
2022 Hellam Young Artists’ Competition to be held March 26, 2022 in Springfield, Missouri.

Hellam Competition Update. 8 semi-finalists have uploaded their performance of the entire work entered originally.
The adjudication will be completed by March 15,2021. Notification of winners to follow.
There will be no live semifinalists performances in Springfield Missouri on February 27, 2021 due to the pandemic. Semifinalists will be informed of the procedure to follow in the near future.
Please stay safe.
Because the pandemic canceled the April 2020 semi-finals of the competition, we plan on holding them on February 27, 2021.
Therefore, a new 2021 Hellam Competition will not be held.
And the semi-finals in February will depend on the pandemic conditions at that time.
Assuming Covid-19 is not still around, the canceled 2020 Hellam Young Artists' Competition will take place on February 27, 2021.
Due to the coronavirus, the Hellam Young Artists' Competition has been canceled.

Bryan Cheng is a Canadian cellist who is studying in Berlin.
Maya Buchanan 2nd prize $3,500

Maya is studying at Curtis Institute.
Traian Sturza 3rd prize $1,500
bassoon Hummel: Grand Concerto for Bassoon and Orchestra
Traian is from Romania and is finishing his studies at Columbus State U. in Columbus,
Georgia, USA. He will be returning home shortly.
Eliza Wong Stephen & Linda Paganini Brite Award $1,000

Eliza is studying at Vanderbilt University.

To submit audition materials:

2 Under “Start an Application,” select “2019 Hellam Young Artists' Competition.”
3 Click the green “Apply to” button below to begin.
4 You will be directed to a page where you where you will create an Acceptd account or login to your already existing account. A valid email is required (check spam folder).
5 You will be directed back to the Hellam Young Artists’ Competition application. Fill out all fields, upload your materials, and submit the $130 fee.

Congratulations to the 2nd Place winner Hanna Zhdan and our 3rd Place winner
William Chiang! Hanna performed Conus's Violin Concerto in E minor and William performed Grieg's Piano Concerto in A minor.
And the winner is...Graeme Johnson! Graeme performed the Mozart Clarinet Concerto in A major at the 2018 Hellam Young Artists' Competition! He will be featured as guest soloist during the Springfield Symphony Orchestra MO's 2018-19 season!
