“Why You’re Not Winning”
Using my 40-year career in Sales, Business Development, and Coaching in business and sports, I have studied and learned why people and businesses fail. I must admit that I am a disciple of the late and great Dale Carnegie- the art of selling, Vince Lombardi — football legend, Angelo Dundee-boxing trainer of Muhammad Ali, and L. Ron Hubbard-Dianetics.
The one thing that is consistent with these legends is that they all preached discipline, structure, concentration, goals, and self-belief. To this day, I still go back and read Carnegie’s The Golden Book-How to win friends and influence people-How to stop worrying and start living, Lombardi won wherever he went from Green Bay to the Washington Red Skins, Dundee would not let the then Cassius Clay quit when blinded by a substance in his first fight with Sonny Liston, Hubbard stressed that to have a purposeful life and to achieve success, you must clear all that have held you back. Having the will to win to persevere is the most critical aspect of winning!
People fail when they have no self-discipline, lack of direction, unmotivated, and UN-realistic goals. Businesses fail when they have a flawed business plan, Unrealistic-goals, not consulting the right people in their line of business, and inadequate cash flow.

My friendship to Financial Institutions began 37 years ago when I successfully sold software and services to banks and credit unions in the Northeast. In 2004, I led the effort to allow Overdraft Services to be sold in Massachusetts by meeting with then Commissioner of Banks, Steven L. Antonakes. Meeting with Commissioner Antonakes was successful and it allowed all other companies to sell overdraft services in Massachusetts. I was employed by Pinnacle Financial Strategies based in Houston, Texas. My long held passion was to facilitate the avenue for African Americans and Latinos to C-level and Boards of these institutions. I initially reached out to Ben Swan an icon in the African American and Latino community for guidance. Ben is a retired Massachusetts State Representative and headed up Ways and Means. Ben provided me with a road map and away I went. The initial approach was to piggy back on the Senator Jason Lewis bill, "women on corporate boards." After strategic consideration, it was decided that the best approach was through State Senator, Eric P. Lesser, and Financial Services. Senator Lesser is committed and confirmed to move forward with sponsoring a bill for Diversity in Financial Services in Massachusetts. The bill will insure that African Americans and Latinos are supported at the C-level and Boards of Banks and Credit Unions.

The hot button and key approach in Financial Services - Banks and Credit Unions is Diversity and Inclusion! Diversity and Inclusion was my passion 37 years ago when I was the only person of color that was represented calling on banks and credit unions in the Northeast. Over the years I participated in many trade shows and exhibitions as a speaker, salesman and team leader. These events took place in San Diego, Las Vegas, New York, Orlando and other cities. It was not until the late 90's that I began to visibly see other ethnicities in this space. Looking at LinkedIn, Face Book and other social media sites you will see photo ops of African Americans and Latinos out front waving to their respective audiences. While this makes great marketing visuals, a deeper dive will show that these ethnicities are still not adequately represented at the C-Level and Boards of Banks and Credit Unions. I will state that the number of financial institutions has grown that do understand true Inclusion and real Diversity, and social benefits in their markets.

WAMF Consulting is dedicated to support and facilitate change Inclusion and Diversity! I'll sit on your boards while sourcing diverse talent at the executive and board level on behalf of your financial institution, to also include corporations!

It is my mission to secure national support that will make this a National Initiative and a reality! On a weekly basis, I will post my views on diversity and inclusion. If you have been following WAMF Consulting, you will see that WAMF is an acronym for "winners are my friends." My posts and writings are based on winning in business and in life. I frown on subjects when individuals are labeled as losers! There is no such thing as being a loser, its those individuals who have never developed positive thought patterns. And you might ask, "how do you develop positive thought patterns," this is really very simple, "change the way you think." Changing the way you think affects your job performance, relationships, self image, rationale, and most importantly success! My current initiative is on "MESSAGING," and I am finishing up this very important and critical key piece to winning in business and in your personal life. I must also admit that being spiritual and having faith are two components to achieving success and being looked upon as a "winner." Those of you reading this will agree that none of us "have ever accomplished anything on our own." There was always something seen and unseen that assisted and helped you especially in times of trouble and despair. All of those team tennis championships, presidents clubs, world travel destinations, upper income level, positions in the software and banking space when I was the only minority (person of color.) came from practicing the above traits. My friends,family and colleagues consider me to be an "over-achiever" and you can too with a little practice! In conclusion, the engine that rules my life in person and in business is the power of rationalization. This is to look at a situation or problem and see the resolution very quickly, referred to as "thinking on your feet." I will launch Messaging next week.
