Osage Beach Lake of the Ozarks Dirty Tap Water

Many people drink tap water straight from their faucet, but did you know there are several contaminants in our tap water? Specifically, for Osage Beach / Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri, we did a quick check on the EWG’s (Environmental Working Group) website which has systematically run water tests and checks throughout the Ozarks and the rest of the United States. It was found that there are approximately seven (8) contaminants within our Osage Beach water supply which, while above EWG (Environmental Working Group) guidelines, are still present in our water.

Out of these seven (8) contaminants in our tap water, ALL of them are known to increase the risk of cancer. Again, this is all stated in the EWG website. We found this to be a unique tool: all you have to do is click here, punch in your zip code, and it will bring up the results of the water quality tests completed in that area. While Osage Beach, Mo. is in compliance with legally mandated federal standards, there is still one obvious fact: we still have contaminants in our tap water!

Luckily for us residing in Osage Beach and the Lake of the Ozarks, there are many ways we can clean dirty tap water and rid our homes of gross bacteria and other contaminants which could be thriving in your water. Purchasing a Reverse Osmosis system may be exactly what you need to ensure you are drinking clean crisp water daily!

It's Source Water Protection Week. By keeping our rivers, lakes, and underground wells free from pollution, it's easier and less expensive to keep water safe and healthy.



Tips for Business:

- Report spills immediately to proper authorities.

- Follow regulations and permit requirements applicable to your business.

- Demonstrate your business’s commitment to environmental stewardship by following industry environmental best practices.

- Join your Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) to form partnerships and increase resources for hazardous materials preparedness.

- Develop plans and procedures to respond to emergency events such as spills, extreme weather, etc.

- Train employees on emergency response plans and procedures, spill prevention, and environmental best practices.

- Properly store and secure chemicals, cleaners, oils/fuels, and other potentially hazardous materials.

- Inspect the systems regularly, including secondary containment, and cap or reroute floor drains where needed.

- Employ conservation measures to ease the burden on water supplies and reduce water waste.

- Identify your local water utility and check your location(s) relative to source water areas.

- Host a company volunteer day and/or encourage employees to participate in volunteer opportunities for watershed protection.
