What should you drink on a hot day? 💦

When it’s hot and we may be playing outside or playing sports you may think the best choice would be to choose Gatorade over water but that is not the best choice.
Gatorade not only contains lots of sugars, that could lead to tooth decay. But it is also a very acidic drink. The acids from the drink can then give the oral bacteria that feed on the sugars a head start at destroying tooth enamel. Then comes cavities.

While it’s okay to consumes sports drinks in moderation for the benefits they do provide daily consumption of them leads to way more risks then benefits. If you are thirsty and need something to drink reach for water instead🦷

Here is your reminder to call and schedule you child’s dental cleaning/check-up🦷

Did you know that the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends a child’s first dental cleaning/check-up when their first tooth appears or no later than their first birthday 🥳
They also recommend a cleaning/check-up every six months to prevent cavities and other dental problems. 🦷

Did you know that tooth decay is one of the most common childhood diseases?
Leaving tooth decay and cavities untreated could be bad news for your child’s current and future oral health. 🪥🦷

But, there are ways that tooth decay and cavities can be prevented:
-brushing two times a day with a fluoride toothpaste
-flossing daily
-regular dental visits every six months
-fluoride varnish
-maintaining a healthy diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and calcium-rich foods
-limiting snacks that are sticky and high in sugars, like chips, candy, gummies
-limiting carbohydrate-rich foods
-drinking water and limiting/eliminating juices, milk, pop to with a meal or just not at all
-getting dental sealants when able to

Why do we take X-rays?
X-rays are an important tool for the dentist to get a look at things they can’t see with the naked eye. It allows the dentist to potentially catch problems before they cause discomfort or issues.
Such as:
•cavities
•extra teeth
•erupting/developing teeth
•impacted teeth
•spacing issues
•jaw position
•abscesses

What kind of X-rays do we typically take?
•panoramic: shows the entire mouth in one image.
•bitewings: often used to check for cavities between the teeth in the back of the mouth.
•occlusal: this can show the upper or lower teeth/jaw.
•periapical: shows the entire tooth from the crown to the root.
