We've expanded how Zachary uses his Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) device! He is now proficient in checking in for therapy and ordering food with no prompts. He is also learning how to express his feelings.
For 23 years, we've guessed his emotions. Soon, with the zones of regulation, Zachary can identify feelings by color: green for happy, red for upset, etc. The hope is that the color coding will help him better identify each emotion within a category. We are starting with happy, angry, silly, and sad, and we'll move to more nuanced emotions once these are functional.
Nathan, Speech Language Pathologist, models using the AAC, guiding Zachary to respond independently. This journey will help him truly express his emotions and is a monumental step forward. We are proud of Zachary and can't wait to see his continued growth!

The ADA Anniversary Block Party was wonderful! We were excited to give tours of the Autism and Neurodevelopmental Center to so many people yesterday.
Hannah, Occupational Therapist, is working with Bowyn on letter identification and cognition required for handwriting skills. Bowyn first identified the letter selected and then found its matching upper or lowercase letters. Next, he put the pieces together to target fine motor coordination and object manipulation. Hannah loves to find different and fun ways to incorporate letters because handwriting can oftentimes be challenging!
