Early Voting Goes on Following St. Charles County Court Hearing 11/01/2024

Registered voters in St. Charles County can continue casting their ballots before election day with no disruptions after a judge today dismissed a plaintiff’s request for a halt in voting to settle a dispute on poll watchers.

Judge Dwayne A. Johnson dismissed the request for a temporary restraining order, ruling that the plaintiff’s filing did not comply with state rules for making such a request.

At issue in the case is whether state law allows for poll watchers during the absentee voting period—as the plaintiff had argued—or whether it allows for poll watchers only on election day, as County Director of Elections Kurt Bahr had asserted.

“We are happy that St. Charles County voters will not have to worry about their ability to vote during the absentee period,” says County Director of Elections Kurt Bahr. “Election challengers from both political parties will be present at several polling locations on election day as state law allows. We hope that the legislature can provide clarity on this issue during their next session.”

The Election Authority will continue with early no-excuse absentee voting as scheduled Thursday, Oct. 31. The Election Authority office was made aware late Wednesday of an attempt to obtain a temporary restraining order on early voting in the county, with an order to appear for a court hearing Friday, Nov. 1.

“We will follow any court order that may or may not result from the hearing on Friday,” says Kurt Bahr, St. Charles County Director of Elections. “There is no injunction to stop early voting at this time, so our voting locations will be opened as originally planned Thursday.”

Early Voting Update: More Parking and Staff, Extra Day Added 10/29/2024

With a historic surge in early voting, St. Charles County Election Authority is adding parking for its main office and expanding capacity at its satellite voting location. 🗳️

- Election Authority office (397 Turner Blvd, St. Peters) — To fix major issues with traffic and parking, the Election Authority office has added off-site parking with a shuttle bus. The new parking is at The Crossing at Mid Rivers, located at 6000 West Geneva Drive. (Accessed by taking Highway 79 to the Pearl Drive exit.) The shuttle parking is about 5 minutes from the Election Authority office.

- Element Church (100 Mall Parkway, Wentzville) — The satellite voting site will open one extra day due to high demand. Element Church will open to voters Monday, Nov. 4, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. (The last day at Element was originally planned for Friday, Nov. 1.) Element Church is not open for voting on Saturdays.

Also, extra staff and equipment have been added at Element Church to process voters more quickly — 60% more staff, 50% more voter check-in stations, and double the ballot printers.

“This is the first presidential election where no-excuse absentee voting has been part of the process in Missouri,” says Kurt Bahr, St. Charles County Director of Elections. “The turnout is way, way more than anticipated. It far exceeded any projection we had. And not just us — other counties are seeing the same thing.”

Spotlight On: Go Dog Go: Man’s Best Friend Still Vital to St. Charles County Police 10/24/2024

At first—all they had to go on was a shoe.
Nobody yet knew that the missing teenaged girl had fallen down an elevator shaft at a construction site nearby. Police called in Tank, a tracking hound and member of the St. Charles County Police K-9 Unit.
Tank tugged forward, nose to the ground, pulling Officer Spiess along on a tight leash.
They came to a construction site, just a floor and the skeleton of a hotel with a few beams and an elevator shaft.
Tank saved her life, and the lives of 13 others in during his service with the K-9 unit.

Please see the information below from Saint Charles, Missouri - City Government about the new traffic flow at Muegge and Mexico Road:

Drivers on northbound Muegge Drive should be aware that a lane has been reassigned from a combined left-turn/through lane to a left-turn only lane. Here’s what drivers need to know:
• As you drive north on Muegge approaching Mexico Road, you have a choice to go left onto westbound Mexico in either of the two inside lanes.
• If you want to go through the intersection northbound on Muegge toward Cave Springs, you must get in one of the two outside lanes.
• There no longer is an option to choose a lane on northbound Muegge that can take you either left or through the intersection.
This lane assignment change was made in conjunction with the Cave Springs interchange project at I-70 completed by the Missouri Department of Transportation.

Enrollment began in the spring with 36,000 people applying—and sometimes long lines. By late summer and early fall, applicants who had been rejected returned with paperwork in hand to fix what was wrong.
