On behalf of the Ole Tyme Produce family, we announce the sad news of the passing of our matriarch, Louise “Boo” Daleo. Mrs. Daleo founded the company with her husband, Joe Daleo in November of 1973.

After her initial hesitation, she brainstormed the name and spelling of “Ole Tyme Produce”. She worked alongside her husband in the early days of retailing directly to customers, helping fill orders and check out customers, building displays, taking wholesale produce orders, trimming and wrapping produce, and assisting in building fruit baskets. She brought in homemade treats including cookies, fudge, and buttermilk biscuits to share with regular customers. Later, when the company moved to Historic Produce Row, she worked in the office helping with accounting and filing.

She was the loved “mother” to us all. She never failed to remember birthdays, weddings, and births. She often made special baby quilts, embroidered clothes or towels, or some other handmade gift to employees to honor their special events.

Our hearts our heavy. We are heartened by the many fond memories of Boo. - Joan Daleo, President and CEO of Ole Tyme Produce

Despite challenging season for Mexican produce imports, long-term growth continues 03/22/2024

In 2023, U.S. imports of fresh produce from Mexico rose despite challenges like hurricanes and drought. Tomato, pepper, and cucumber imports increased, but avocado imports declined. Price volatility occurred due to supply chain disruptions, especially for tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, and squash. Despite challenges, the U.S.-Mexico fresh produce trade remains strong, with both countries adapting to meet demand.

Despite challenging season for Mexican produce imports, long-term growth continues Hurricanes last fall, recent drought and other factors have held back some fresh produce output in Mexico in recent months, but the value of U.S. imports from the country continues to climb.

Enjoy this Ole Tyme Produce 🙌

In 1973, Joe and Louise Daleo began Ole Tyme Produce out of a converted two-bay filling station in St. Louis, Missouri. Rising early each morning, Joe would hand select all the fruits and vegetables on Produce Row for their small store. He and Louise knew every customer by name and soon their reputation for quality and fairness preceded them, spreading quickly throughout the surrounding neighborhoods. Fast forward to 2024, Ole Tyme has grown to be the largest, woman-owned, fresh food distributor in the state of Missouri!
