This is the season of speaking up and speaking out! In the era of deep fakes, alternative facts and battles over “misinformation” it’s so important that we control our own narratives as we create our own realities. The Sovereign University community tribe has been practicing this through journaling, storytelling and creative expressions such as drawing, painting and song writing. We’re not raising our scholars to fear technology or be intimidated by what CAN happen. We’re encouraging them to plan what WILL happens based on their ideas for how to benefit from AI and other technologies available to them! Sovereign strong 💪🏾

Healing starts at home. Join us this Friday as we discuss actions you and your family can take to increase safety, promote healing, and encourage learning within the public school system. Strategizing…

There’s an entire population of young people going home today more traumatized than they left this morning. This group is apart of a larger population that has had to navigate the fear and uncertainty associated with the COVID pandemic, the frustration of virtual learning, and the every day distractions and temptations of 2022 all while pursuing their academics. I was in high school when the Columbine massacre set off the trend of school shootings and it’s only gotten increasingly worse and scarier since then. With that being said I can’t act like I understand what their going through, I can only do my best to empathize with them. As a parent, days like today scare and enrage me, but I’m also encouraged to continue to be there for my children, my scholars and any others young people I come in contact with. It’s our duty to protect our children and it’s always a rude awakening when we learn that task ain’t a easy one at all. If you’re reading this I encourage you to reach out to a young person today with a listening ear, words of encouragement and an abundance of love. Condolences to all in the STL community and abroad affected by this tragedy.

At SoveU we start every day with a round table discussion on whatever topics are own our minds. We go on tangents, stumble down down rabbit holes, learn new words by searching definitions in a physical paper dictionary, and brainstorm ideas about how to be the change that we want to see in the world.

At Sovereign University we pride ourselves in creating opportunities and experiences to enrich the lives of our scholars, families and supporters. That’s why we are super excited to share that our 11 year old Sovereign scholar Kingston Harrell, has been invited to participate as a peer art educator at Midwest Con presented by DisruptArt at the Art Academy of Cincinnati next month! Kingston is a self-taught digital artist that makes animations, short films, social media content and graphic designs for his clothing line Sovereign Art. This wonderful invitation has come on fairly short notice so we are reaching out to our network of families, friends and supporters to help us make this opportunity a reality. The conference is August 12-14th, 2022 and we need to get him there. Last month our Sovereign Scholars we’re included in an elite group of soccer players that joined the players on the field before the game! Soccer has become a staple of our homeschool co-op as we work to ensure that their physical health compliments that intellectual abilities.

Our scholars loved learning about astronomer, inventor and engineer Benjamin Banneker. We explored how his reverence of the cycles of nature provided him with the insight to build the first clock made in America! Aśe to the ancestor.
