Happy Father's Day!
"St. Louis is the fifth place I have lived in, after Sekinchan and Petaling Jaya in Malaysia; Wolverhampton in England, and Adelaide in Australia. I grew up in the small coastal town of Sekinchan. I pursued my undergraduate degree in Quantity Surveying at the University of Wolverhampton. After completing my studies, I returned to my home country and continued my career in Petaling Jaya. I’m married to my husband, have two kids, and migrated to Adelaide when my kids were ready for schooling. A year later, my kids and I followed my husband to Saint Louis after he accepted his transfer to his company’s headquarters.
Living abroad is not sweet and easy. My first living abroad experience was in England, and my second was in Adelaide. It is full of adventures, culture shock, opportunity, and personal development. Of course, it comes with a lonely lifestyle and is full of compromises.
I believe everything that happens in my life is for a reason and along the journey, it will develop the strength I will need for tomorrow. This helps me grow and get better.
I feel incredibly lucky to be a part of S. M. Wilson and have the opportunity to work with many incredible and wonderful people. They are helpful, supportive, patient, and willing to be a resource. This allows me to continue learning, gain experience and better understand the industry, the culture, and the community. Thank you, everyone in my life, for being there and helping me throughout.

BACK IN THE DAY…
"The Bio Research Building #1, or BRB1, was one of those projects you just remember because of the complexity, the size, and the speed at which it went up. We built this new building over an active Metrolink track while it was still live, with much of the work around the track having to be done at night."
This $206 million, 11-story high-rise BJC Institute of Health facility, commonly known as BRB1 on the job site, was constructed on a tight site connecting to Barnes-Jewish Hospital in downtown St. Louis. The 675,000 SF of space is shared by Washington University School of Medicine and Barnes-Jewish Hospital. The project began in 2007 and ended in 2009. This project received several recognitions including the 2010 Midwest Construction Best of the Best Award of Merit, the 2010 AGC St. Louis Keystone Project of the Year Judges’ Award, the 2010 Construction News and Real Estate Award and a 2010 SLCC Best Practices Award.
"As part of the project, we had to build three new bridges - two bridges to existing skywalks and another to a building, along with a 90-foot underground access tunnel to another Washington University building, which is still used today. We would have about two hours to work around the Metrolink track to construct the building at night because the electricity would be turned off to all the overhead trains around 1:30 a.m., but it would be re-energized by 4 a.m. There was always an S. M. Wilson superintendent on site," said Steve Lambing, project superintendent, who has been with S. M. Wilson for 25 years and also served as the MEP project superintendent for this specific project.
"As a company, we implemented several new things we hadn't done before by sending several prebuilt items to the site. We increased the manpower offsite to decrease the manpower on-site because of the tight space and schedule. By saving space, you save time."
