This is Julia, she has worked at the shop since she was an infant. You might remember her sitting in a bouncy seat on the counter, or napping in her crib in the “kitchen”. She and her mother have been here since the beginning. Seemed right that she take home the sign.

After 15 successful years in business, The Porch Wine & Gift Boutique will close its doors this summer.

I first discovered Soulard in the mid 1980’s. It was a blessing when my father, Denny BigDuke Moran, was looking for additional investment property in Soulard and purchased the building at the corner of 9th & Lafayette. He encouraged me to open a business. The Porch was born on June 2, 2004. Keith and I purchased the building from my father in 2014. We stayed open through major building renovations, Lafayette Street Bridge closing (6 weeks in the spring of ‘09 – ouch), recession of 2008, Highway 40 shut down for repairs, constant shut downs of highway 44, business slow downs during protests, World Series and Stanley cups.

Our 3 children were raised in Soulard, walking to Pontiac Park, shopping at Soulard Market, golf cart rides, selling snow cones, enjoying this diverse and historic neighborhood. The Porch became a family hang-out and served as a venue for many family and friends gatherings. Customers, employees and other business owners have become life-long friends. We have loved Soulard and cherished being a part of such a wonderful community.

It is now time for us to move on to new adventures, please stop by and share your memories.
We anticipate closing mid-August. The building will be for lease/sale and we hope the new tenant/owner will love it and the neighborhood as much as we have.
