The data proves what everyone on this page has known for years: women prefer a sculpted body over larger breasts/breast implants. In my opinion, many moderate or larger breasted women choose breast augmentation over body contouring because they don't realize the proportional improvements that can be made with body contouring. In other words, the smaller your torso, the larger your breasts appear proportionally.
Smaller breasted women and those with weight loss still benefit from breast implants due to lack of volume, especially in the upper pole. Even when implants are utilized, too large of implants are often placed for these patients. This occurs because plastic surgeons make up for their lack of skill in skin removal and contouring with larger implants. Techniques of breast reduction with small implants lead to the best results for many patients, particularly when the skin becomes more inelastic and will not support the weight of implants. In these cases, rigid mesh may be utilized.
While there are many plastic surgeons proficient at breast augmentation, there are sgnificanlty less that are skilled and comfortable in combination breast lift/reduction with implants. The numbers decrease significantly when you add body contouring and massive weight loss expertise, with less than 10 PS experts in the United States in Dr. Cabbabe's opinion at both. So as the requests for liposuction and body contoruing increase, the number of poor results will skyrocket in both breast and body contouring surgery as women seek more of both. The result is that a patient who chooses an average board - certified plastic surgeon will have below average results ( considered "Botched" by todays standards) in all treated areas, a trend we are seeing with increasing frequency in our practice.
