WashU Music undergraduate alumnus Cole Reyes ('20) was named the winner of The President's Own 2024 Call for Scores competition! This is a great achievement and we look forward to hearing Cole's future compositions! Congratulations to Cole! WashU Arts & Sciences Washington University in St. Louis

"The President's Own" congratulates Cole Reyes on being named the winner of its 2024 Call for Scores competition. Reyes’ composition "Burst" bested nearly 80 other applications to win the 2024 contest. The Call for Scores is an annual effort to expand contemporary repertoire and provide an opportunity for composers to have their work performed and recorded by a professional ensemble.

"'Burst' is inspired by images released from NASA's James Webb telescope and the many celestial phenomena that happen constantly in our universe, said Reyes." The Marine Chamber Orchestra will premiere "Burst" during its 2025 Winter/Spring Concert Series and Reyes will receive a $5,000 honorarium from the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation.

Our '24 Great Artists Series came to a triumphant conclusion with the absolutely fabulous Christine Goerke, Soprano, and pianist Craig Terry. Their performance gave the audience all the feels. We expected her Strauss and Wagner to be flawless (and it was!) but there was a rare dry eye after a touching rendering of a piece by Smith based on letters from WWII. This performance was followed the next day by an unforgettable masterclass in which Ms. Georke transformed students in front of the audience's eyes. Each student left the stage beaming from the uplifting and joyous way Goerke guided them through their performance. This concert and masterclass were exemplary of why the Great Artists Series is such a vital addition to the St. Louis arts scene, and we are proud to share yet another incredible series with our community next year! https://music.wustl.edu/great-artists-series-2025

Special thanks to Mary Pillsbury-Wainwright for her sponsorship of Ms. Goerke's performance.

An Interview With Christine Goerke | The Girl of the Golden Met I so enjoyed getting to interview Christine Goerke, dramatic soprano and Brünnhilde extraordinaire! On top of that, she's the polar opposite of a "diva," down-to-earth and easily one of the funniest people in opera.
