Catholic Supply - Restoration of a Solid Gold German Monstrance
It is an extremely rare for a Sacred Vessel to be created in solid gold as it is a softer metal. In fact, over the past 55+ years we have only seen a few items (a paten and a chalice cup) made of solid gold. This piece was hand made in Germany over a century ago in 10kt Rose Gold. All the gems on the monstrance are genuine and the enamel work is exquisite. The piece was brought to us about 4 months ago and we began restoration. The weight of the top portion was too much for the stem and base to with stand, so we installed custom crush tubes to help support the weight. There was much soldering work that needed to be done, so the decision to plate in 24Kt Gold was made. The enamels were cleaned, plated, and restored. In the end this timeless piece is now restored and ready to be placed in the chapel. It will be a piece we will remember forever and it was a great honor to be trusted with this job!
