In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, Quiet Village Landscaping is excited to share Rene’s story. Rene is one of our Project Managers. He helps run our weekly safety meetings and lead our crews!

“My name is Rene Alvarado, I am one of the many immigrants who left their country to fulfill their dreams, goals, and to have a better life for myself and my family. I am from Mexico City, which many know as the capital or simply the city. I am from a small neighborhood called Iztapalapa, near the heart of Mexico, the Zócalo.

Well, everything started when one of my brothers emigrated first to the United States, which everyone knows as the USA or America. Many also call it the land of dreams ❤️

My adventure began when I emigrated in 2009. I passed through Houston and lived there for a few months, but I didn’t feel at home, so we decided to move to St. Louis, Missouri. When we arrived here, my first impression was, “Wow, it’s so beautiful here!” But it wasn’t easy. Over time, little by little, everything started to change for the better.

In 2016 or 2017, I found my second home, Quiet Village. We started working in landscaping, and I loved the colors, the construction, creating something that, in the end, left many people with a huge smile for building them the home or space of their dreams. That motivates me.

From 2009 to 2024, everything has improved. I have my beautiful family, two children, and also three lovely pets. We keep working on ourselves, trying to be better every day, and we’re achieving that...

As for my beautiful Mexico, I carry it in my heart. I never forget my Mexico 🇲🇽 I miss my family, the food, the Christmas celebrations, Halloween—we call it Day of the Dead—the beaches, my people, and the culture.”

These factors make September to October the best time to plant trees and shrubs, so they can develop robust root systems before winter.

With fewer demands for pruning, w**d control, and other summer chores, fall is the perfect time to focus on planting. Drier autumn weather makes the soil easier to work with compared to spring soil conditions, but proper watering after planting is still critical.

We were thrilled to connect with Sebastian and Maddison from Ryan Lawn & Tree. Sebastian is the Director of the St. Louis market and Maddison is an ISA Certified Arborist & Forestry Coordinator. They shared valuable insights on plant health as well as strategies on recruitment and employee retention, highlighting the success of their college recruitment and employee stock program.

Stephen from Envisioning Green brought fresh perspectives on design/build operations, emphasizing their LIMES job planning method. This ensures teams have all the Labor, Information, Materials, Equipment, and Subs they need to succeed. Specializing in landscape construction and hardscaping, their focus on creating stunning outdoor spaces aligns with our mission at Quiet Village Landscaping.

We shared some of our own successes, including the effectiveness of our Client Success Team. These representatives respond to clients' needs through our dedicated text line, and we're able to tailor communication to our clients' preferences. We also highlighted our approach to employee onboarding, which fosters a strong culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous growth.
