This drawing is by Anja Rozen, a 13-year-old primary school student in Slovenia. She was chosen from 600,000 children around the world to create a piece of art to show what peace looks like.

She is the winner of the international Plakat Miru competition.
"My drawing represents the land that binds us and unites us."

"Humans are woven together. If someone gives up, others fall. We are all connected to our planet and to each other, but unfortunately we are little aware of it. We are woven together. Other people weave alongside me my own story; and I weave theirs," said the young designer.

Not actually related to our farm business of seedlings, herbs, and mushrooms, but this is our other profession, and hey we use sustainable and most often organic raw materials and help the environment - use cloth napkins!

Look, we all know the best food in the world is available right here in Maine. Our farmers’ market vendors provide the freshest, most carefully-grown and hard-won vegetables, increasingly famous cheeses, plump and exquisitely ripe fruit, meats full of the goodness of Maine’s woods and pastures, vibrant seafood from our precious gulf, and all kinds of other specialty foods produced here by people you know. It’s a huge privilege to have access to it. But shouldn’t everybody?
That’s where Maine Harvest Bucks comes in! It supports people of all backgrounds to shop at farmers’ markets by providing nutrition incentives that stretch SNAP benefits. Maine nutrition incentives like Maine Harvest Bucks and Farm Fresh Rewards are a win-win-win:
🥕support rural economies and small farm livelihoods by directing federal SNAP dollars to local farms. $1 in federal money turns into $1.70 in local economic growth!
🥕support positive health outcomes and behaviors by encouraging people to eat local, nutritious whole foods found at farmers’ markets and farm stands.
🥕support food security among vulnerable Mainers, including many children.

Sustained state funding is critical for nutrition incentives programs, and federal grants match on a 1:1 basis. The more we can leverage from the state, the more we can request from the USDA’s pool of funding set aside for this purpose.
The state bill LD-2093 will double the total amount available for nutrition incentives from $600,000 to $1,200,000. This will help Maine Harvest Bucks reach more farmers’ markets throughout all areas of the state. Up until now, that funding has always been temporary. This bill would make it ongoing! So let’s do something good together!
Help us advocate for this bill by testifying in Augusta on Monday, probably around 1pm. You can also testify via zoom or submit it in writing. (“Testifying” just means reading a paragraph or two in front of a room of 14 nice people. We can help you decide what to write!) DM us for more info and we’ll send you links.
