I have had my diffusers locked and loaded today in my classroom and never will you ever, find one of these toxic carcinogen sprayers in my classroom OR home. Ever.

▪︎ a study involving Public Health England’s Centre for Radiation, Chemical and Environmental Hazards, warned that plug-in air fresheners produce ‘considerable’ levels of formaldehyde: described by the US government’s National Toxicology Program as a known ‘human carcinogen’.

▪︎ Because of the process they go through to be made, ethoxylated ingredients have been found to be contaminated with two toxic ingredients: ethylene oxide (an endocrine disruptor and carcinogen) and 1,4-dioxane (a carcinogen). There are also phthalates included on this list.

▪︎ One of the biggest concerns with these air fresheners is phthalates. When the Natural Resources Defence Council (NRDC) tested 14 different air fresheners, it was discovered that 86% contained these chemicals that can cause birth defects, hormonal abnormalities, and reproductive problems

▪︎ A 2003 study published in Environmental Health Perspectives suggested that environmental levels of phthalates are linked to altered DNA integrity in human s***m

▪︎ formaldehyde, definitively linked to both throat and nose cancer and is known to cause chronic irritation of airways and the throat that can potentially lead to a dangerous infection, asthma, frequent nosebleeds and other respiratory problems, according to the U.S. government National Toxicology Program.

▪︎ a study published in the International Journal of Public Health in 2013 revealed that pregnant women who had used air fresheners were “significantly more likely to have babies that suffered from wheezing and lung infection.”

▪︎ most major plug-in air fresheners brands have been shown to contain a chemical called naphthalene. Lab studies, conducted on rats, have found that it can cause cancer in the lungs and tissue damage. While it’s still being explored, experts believe that it likely causes similar effects in humans.

▪︎ naphthalene has also been linked to nerve deadening in the nose, which has lead to loss of smell.

I did some math today, and I wanted to share!
I’ve used Thieves cleaner as my ONLY cleaner for 3.5 years now, and this is the first time I’ve gotten the big bottle🥴

14.4oz bottle = $23.50 = $1.63 per ounce.

64 ounce bottle = $91.25 = $1.43 per ounce

I’m a bulk buyer typically anyway, and now I’m never going back to the small bottle🤑

It only takes one capful to make a spray bottle, which is about 1/2 an ounce.

That means that you can clean your house with a completely plant based, yummy smelling, toxin free cleaner for literally $0.70-$0.80 a spray bottle.
