This week's mini flow is for the back! Building a strong core isn't only about the abs, you have to strengthen your back muscles, too! Locust is a great way to do that. The first round is the "basic" locust. Roll shoulders back, start to lift and reach fingers and feet back. Make sure to breathe! In the second round, I added some pulling movement with my arms. We do a ton of "push" moves in yoga, but rarely get the opportunity to "pull". Created internal resistance by imagining you are moving through jello. In the last round, I added some coordination moves! Go slowly at first, lifting opposite limbs. As you get it down, you can make it more of a "swimming " movement. Which is your favorite?? This week's flow is an alternate version of Sun Salutation A. In the first round I show some ways to modify the flow because a chaturanga hold is HARD. Start with a one second hold and as you get stronger, work up to the full five second hold. Kneeling lunge + twist + option to drop back hand to thigh/hip 5. Warrior 3 to knee raise 6. Cross leg chair 7. Warrior 3 8. High lunge + twist + option to drop back hand 9. Revolved side angle 10. This week's flow is one we did in class Thursday evening. In class, we did the first half in round one, then added on for round 2. Here, I show you some "add-ons" on side b. 1. Three leg dog 2. Warrior 2 (lift/lower x 3) 3. Warrior 1 4. Warrior 3 (option of back leg lower/lift) 5. Crescent lunge twist variation with dips 6. Revolved side angle 7. Side plank (optional reach under x 3) 8. Plank Flow through and complete side B. This week's pose is Beast! Also known as Floating Table. This pose works it all: abs, quads, calves, arms, chest, and shoulders! Start in downward facing dog. Step the feet in a bit. Lower the knees to hover a couple inches off the mat. Hold for 5 big breaths (you can work up to that), then push back to that shirt down dog to rest. Repeat 3-5x. If that's too much to start with, try a higher hover. If your wrists are sensitive, you can drop to your forearms instead! This week's pose post is a video! Chaturanga is used mostly as a "transition" pose in our vinyasa flows! It strengthens the whole body, but especially focuses on the chest, arms, and shoulders. The key here is to not allow the shoulders to dip below the elbows. You can stay on your toes, or drop the knees to assist lowering down. Handstand hop n switch from Fusion class! This is a small section of what we did in Yoga Fusion. Your hops can be big, like these, or keep feet closer to the floor with baby hops. Either way, these hops are fun!

Hey everyone! A couple people have asked about my awesome yoga mat carrying strap. Well, I happen to have 2 extras that my mom has made! I'd like to give you guys the first opportunity to get one of your own. These carrying straps are fully adjustable, they'll fit just about any mat (they fit my Manduka Pro like a champ). They are handmade, by my mom, out of super sturdy cotton duck cloth. They are one of a kind. She is selling them for $15/each. Every dollar goes straight to my mom, I'm not making a dime off of the sale. I'll have them with me in class, if you'd like to check them out in person.
