For three semesters, Niblack Research Scholars dedicate their time to academic experiences outside the traditional classroom by conducting research in one of Oklahoma State University’s laboratories.

These undergraduate students receive funding that allows them to pursue research that interests them and pays for a mentor to help along the way. Students work two to five hours per week with their mentors in hands-on laboratory environments during fall and spring semesters as well as 20 hours per minimum per week in the summer.

This spring, seven scholars completed their research and are preparing to present their findings to Dr. John Niblack in October.

Our annual Undergrad Research Symposium broke records this year with a new high of 308 students presenting 266 projects this year!

🤝 NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration National Eclipse Balloon Program.

OSU was part of 50 teams across the U.S. in the NASA eclipse program, collecting data based on gravity wave disturbances for improvements in weather forecasting.

A rare opportunity: OAIRE researchers use eclipse to gather atmospheric data - Oklahoma State University Oklahoma State University’s Oklahoma Aerospace Institute for Research and Education used the 2024 total solar eclipse path as an opportunity to improve weather forecasting.

OSU alumnus researching supernova explosions at Max Planck Institute for Nuclear Physics - Oklahoma State University Dr. Sudip Jana, an Oklahoma State University Department of Physics alumnus, has published new research exploring supernova explosions. A 2019 Ph.D. graduate, Jana is pursuing research at the Max Planck Institute for Nuclear Physics in Germany.

Dr. Joy Scaria has been awarded a grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to research microbiome-targeted interventions for swine gastric orders.

OSU One Health research targets swine microbiome to reduce antibiotic reliance - Oklahoma State University Dr. Joy Scaria, OSU’s Walter R. Sitlington Endowed Chair in Infectious Diseases, has been awarded a $385,000 U.S. Department of Agriculture grant to investigate microbiome-targeted interventions for swine gastric disorders over three years.

This year's honorees are Dr. John O'Hara (OSU College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology) Dr. Bruce Noden (Oklahoma State Ferguson College of Agriculture) and Dr. Laleh Tahini (Oklahoma State University College of Arts and Sciences).

Dr. Tyrrell Conway has published research on nitrogen sources and the E. coli bacteria. This work correlates directly with OSU's role in the new Oklahoma Center for Microbiome Research, which received a NIH grant earlier this year.
