Adult Basic Education - ABE

We’ve had a great start to the Fall Day Classes for ABE. We’ve been learning about the brain, its three main parts, and their functions! This week we made “brain hats” to show off how much information our brains can hold! I’m so lucky to get to work with these individuals! They are the best!

Hi! My name is Melanie Eick and I am one of the volunteer teachers for Stillwater ABE. ABE is a continuing education program for adults with developmental disabilities. This program is a registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization and is only able to continue providing this service through generous donations from our community. We have expanded the program to include two daytime classes in addition to the evening class. As we look toward providing another year of learning opportunities for our students, we have identified several needs for our program. This year Stillwater ABE added another level of service for Adults with Developmental Disabilities in our Stillwater Community. I am so proud of each of these individuals. They made a personal choice to continue learning and committed half a day each week to do so. I am looking forward to continuing this partnership with MPower’s Adult Day Program to provide continuing education opportunities for these very special individuals.

Hello everyone! We hope everyone has had a great summer. Below is the link for the Registration Packet for the 2023-24 Stillwater ABE Class. We are looking forward to getting started! As always, we are looking for ways to improve the program so that we can reach more individuals. You will see in the packet that we are restructuring our schedule in order to offer daytime and evening classes. The daytime classes will primarily serve individuals who attend the day program at MPower, so that the evening classes can serve individuals who work full-time during the day or who have other commitments during the day. We are hopeful this will allow more participation while still keeping our class numbers small enough to better meet individual needs; and, help with issues like transportation, time of day, and staffing that prevented many from attending our classes in the past.

We look forward to welcoming all our former students back and hope that we also get to welcome some new participants as well!

Disability rights are human rights

Our fall semester got off to a great start! We are looking forward to more learning and fun this spring! It is so nice to be back in our classroom and together again!

We are glad to be back and able to have class again. Everyone is getting back in the routine of coming to class after a long break due to COVID. Last week we made mason jar lid pumpkins to decorate for fall.
