Sunday House Farm and Rescue
Sunday House Farm and Rescue is a small private farm.
These kitties need our help!
These kitties came to the farm due to financial strain from their previous human.
Yellow momma: Sunshine (not spayed)
Yellow babies: all boys (not neutered)
Calico: Midnight (not spayed)
Calico, Midnight, needs vet care. She’s approximately 4 years old and suffered an accident as a kitten. The previous human didn’t have funds to get her care. She has been walking on a fused injury. I’m thinking the vet is going to want to amputate. I wrapped it and made it more comfortable tonight.
Please contact me if you would like to sponsor, adopt or send funds to aid in their recovery. Anything is welcomed! I couldn’t turn my back on these babies even though it’s going to be extremely tight for me to do this on my own.
I put 2 bales out. And they horde around 1. Both are the same bay. Bosco is over there working on grass instead.
$650 load of hay delivered. Luckily my hay farmer gives a discount for all the years I’ve been buying from him. Now to get it up and behind the house. The horses will get 2 of them right away.
3 of the horses that live here were saved out of a Colorado kill pen. Gabriel, Ash and Bo
I wish I could save more. The least I can do is bring awareness to this.
Colorado horses are being slaughtered abroad for human consumption. A new bill could shut down the industry. Animal welfare groups followed horses from auctions to slaughterhouses in Canada and Mexico. A Colorado bill could shut down the industry.

Alabama case against Fallon Blackwood closed yesterday. Here’s an updated article about it.

Update to the vet student case
Fallon Blackwood, Former Tuskegee Veterinary Graduate Set to Face Charges in Blount County Trial | Stolen Horse International - NetPosse | NewsBreak Original May 20, 2023 - A former Tuskegee University veterinary student, arrested in Alabama in 2018, will appear at her trial at the Blount County, Alabama, court on May 23, 2023. The victims in this indictment will finally have their day in court.
Anyone remember this story? Fallon Blackwood (veterinarian student) who has been accused of taking horses under false pretenses.
One of my horses was involved in this case. There was a contract signed by Blackwood stating that if she didn’t want the horse, it was to be returned back to me. The horse, Dixie is missing. Along with many others. The last number I heard was something around 50 horses from people who came forward. Not everyone pressed forward for justice. There are 13 possible indictments in Alabama currently.
5 years later after many delays due to Covid and other court related issues, we are pushing forward.
Trial starts May 24, 2023 at 8:00am (central time).
Blount County Courthouse
If there is anyone who wants to come and show their support for horses, please do! We need to show that these animals were more than meat to be sold. They were pets and family members.

I have learned from the horses I have cared from. So much I though I knew until they showed me different.
THE WAY IT WORKS
"Either get the horse that is right for you, or YOU become what is right for the one you have"
It is a choice, it doesn't work any other way.

Feed prep for the hard to keep older horses.
They get all the grass and hay they want to eat. Plus these meals 2 times a day.
Scoop is 2 cups
2 scoops alfalfa cubes
1 scoop beat pulp pellets
2 scoops sweet feed/rice bran mix
Fill mostly with water and let soak until nice and squishy
Makes a “mash” or as I call it “horse smoothie”
Thanks to some donations I was able to pick up some rice bran to add to the sweet feed. The rice bran gives extra calories for the hard to keep old horses without risking health issues for things like laminitis and diabetes.
I mix it in the bin to save time during feed prep.
550lbs of feed. I had already unloaded 50lbs before snapping a pic. Started the mixing process of sweet feed and rice bran.
We have enough hay to last about 3 months now! The horses seem happy.
𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐇𝐨𝐫𝐬𝐞 𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐈𝐬 𝐇𝐮𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠…
I’ve never seen a more misunderstood animal more than 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐇𝐨𝐫𝐬𝐞 𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐈𝐬 𝐇𝐮𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠.
𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐬 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐡𝐮𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐬𝐞…
I’ve been trying to tell you that I am in pain, but you don’t seem to listen.
I show you that I’m in pain by not being willing to work but you just call me 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐛𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐧 or 𝐥𝐚𝐳𝐲. Instead of helping me, you just 𝐤𝐢𝐜𝐤 𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐫.
I show you that I’m in pain by rearing when you try to ride me, but you enjoy showing people you can sit to a rear. Instead of getting off and listening, you just say “𝐇𝐞’𝐬 𝐚𝐥𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐝𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬, 𝐚𝐭 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐢𝐭’𝐬 𝐠𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐧 𝐦𝐞 𝐚 𝐠𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐭!”
I show you that I’m in pain by throwing my head in the air, but you just say it’s one of 𝐦𝐲 𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬. Instead of helping me, you just buy 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐠𝐚𝐝𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐬 so that I can no longer 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐰 𝐦𝐲 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐚𝐢𝐫.
I show you that I’m in pain by bolting, but you just get scared and decide I’m not the one for you. You sell me and I still remain as 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐇𝐨𝐫𝐬𝐞 𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐈𝐬 𝐇𝐮𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠.
It’s our responsibility as animal owners to do right by them, horses can’t speak, they communicate through their actions. So we need to listen!
9/10 times “negative behaviour” is caused my pain, the rest is learnt behaviour. Either way I always check for pain first.
𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐇𝐨𝐫𝐬𝐞 𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐈𝐬 𝐇𝐮𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠, deserves the world. The amount of tolerance, loyalty, patience and trust the hurting horse has, is something I can only dream of having.

This year has been tough.
My husky, Sabrina, died after a $420 vet bill and they didn’t know what was wrong. She died on the way home after getting blood work, urinalysis and an antibiotic injection.
One of my farm cats died after a $600 vet bill and all the blood work and test came back as “ non-regenerative anemia.” They didn’t know why he was sick.
Had to euthanize the 3 oldest horses due to age related health conditions. Just wasn’t right to make them keep going. Around $1200 for vet fees and burials.
And today one of the horses, Gabriel, coliced. $510 vet bill and under 24 hour watch.
Not to mention the hay shortage. Finally found some. $400 for a load of 7 rolls. Plus a 1.5 hour drive in both directions. Hope to get another load this weekend so we don’t run out again. However, the tires on the trailer are air rotten. Not sure about pushing my luck. Can’t afford new tires right now.
Plus I had 3 female kitties spayed last month $300.
This has been by far the most expensive year for vet fees and other expenses.

Imagine you are 80 years old.
Your family is gone… either they died, or left for other interests. You kept yourself in shape, but even so, your back is sore all the time, and you try to pretend otherwise but your sight, hearing, and comprehension are all fading, too. Your caregiver loads you in the car one day, and drives to a strange city, and gets you out of the car and into a tall grey building. There is bustling inside, the activity of a business in full swing, and off to one side, a row of chairs, where other seniors sit, listless, vague. You get nervous, but are instructed to a chair, where you sit and try to smile at the clerk, who does not meet your eyes. Your caregiver goes through a door, muffled sounds, papers signed, and without a word, they are gone. You sit and wait. And wait, as anxiety rises and you realize you have soiled yourself, and you don’t have your pills, and wasn’t one due an hour ago? As the sun sets, a van pulls up, and a brisk team in white outfits begins getting everyone to their feet and shuffling them out the door. One has a clipboard as they review who is being dropped off where. You try to speak up, “Excuse me, there must be some mistake…”, but your arm is supported to stand you up. ”I need to go home”, you sputter, “I have a home and a family!”. One of the aids pauses to gaze at you, and you detect some pity behind the brusque response, “not anymore”. And it sinks in. Head reeling, without out so much as your overnight bag, or medical instructions, or even proof of your name, you slowly climb into the bus.
This is the experience of every old horse dumped at auction. Stripped of their history, their dignity, their sense of worth, they know they have been abandoned. If they knew it was for just a few dollars, a rage might fill them, but usually they are far too heart shattered, and an equine brain does not process that way. They are spared full knowledge of the cruelty of men.
Many of these horses endure a holding pen, then a crowded ride out of the country, where they are slaughtered for consumption. A few, a very few, are rescued.
Our boy Bailey is one such senior horse. We don’t even know what his name was, or who owned him, or how he spent his years, so we must piece it together clue by clue. And now, after four months, his depression is lifting. His worried eyes are relaxing…just a bit. We are working to restore what health and happiness for him that we are able. It appears he did not have dental care, and was locked up for long periods, and was ridden. So. Much. Damage. And likely, the former owner proclaimed to love horses.
We can’t save them all. We can share their stories, so maybe a few owners will rethink their decisions. Because despite whatever care or lack of it you have provided, that horse loved you.
Now Bailey is at Rosemary Farm Sanctuary where we hope to convince him that it’s ok to believe again, and change the end of his story. It can take a long time to get over wanting to die when the one you love left you for just that.
Outside feed stalls made with bamboo A look at my outdoor feed stalls for the special diet horses. I used bamboo for rails. Will see how long before the horses destroy it.
