Educational Foundation
While searching to do its part in providing children with additional educational opportunities, the San Joaquin County Office of Education (SJCOE) founded an educational foundation in January of 1995. SJCOE stated at the time, “The purpose of the San Joaquin County Office of Education Educational Foundation (SJCOEEF) is to link public schools with businesses, individuals, and civic organizations in student-centered programs which increase self-esteem, achieve academic excellence, teamwork, good citizenship, and increase community input for, involvement with, and support of public education.”
Under the umbrella of the SJCOEEF, student programs like Artists-in-Schools, Academic Decathlon, Academic Pentathlon, Biotech Bootcamp, Dinner with a Scientist, Math Smart Tutoring, Math Tournament, Mock Trial, Middle and High School Honor Concerts, Science Olympiad, Science Fair, Spelling Bee, and Outdoor Education (formally known as Science Camp) are receiving foundation funding with the single focus of upgrading these programs to be shining models which attract participation by children throughout the county. By invigorating these student-centered activities with cultural richness and high interest, SJCOE has provided area students with opportunities to work to their potentials by showcasing their talents in special scholastic and hands-on, activity-type areas.
