📢Calling all faculty, alumni, & students!! Join us today for the 2024 Pacific Innovation & Entrepreneurship Summit (PIES) event in the Makerspace from 5:30-8pm🤩

The 5th annual Pacific Innovation and Entrepreneurship Summit took place on April 18 at Pacific's DeRosa University Center. The event had three key segments which showcased students' entrepreneurial spirit and creativity, empowered future entrepreneurs and connected them with the local community: Tiger Tradeshow Pacific Pitch Competition Fantastic Forum . SOECS students took over the Tiger Tradeshow with Amelia Nish '23 (engineering management), Megan Rayback ’23 (civil engineering) and Kaitlyn Venegas ’24 (engineering management) winning first place for their customizable hairbrush, The(ta) Hair Necessities. They were also a finalist for the Pacific Pitch segment. 🤩🏆 . Kailey Espinoza ’23 (engineering management) and Olivia Ong ’23 (engineering management) won second place for Greenie, a bin that uses artificial intelligence to automatically sort trash​. 👏 . Third place was split between engineering management students Alex Machuca ’23 and Curtis Hsiao ’23 for PawTinder (a platform where pet owners can schedule play dates and communicate with one another), and EMGT students Jeyrik Paduga ’23, Rita Kearns ’23, and Lily Torpey ’23, for SunBeets (eco-friendly stylish sunglasses promoting sustainable fashion by utilizing naturally harvested beetle-killed wood). 😮🎉 . Refresh, a one-stop-shop grocery management application by Vicky Guan ’23 (bioengineering major) was a finalist for the Pacific Pitch as well. 🙌 . PIES was a very successful event for our SOECS students and it was awesome to see their projects and hard work come together! Thanks to a grant from Pacific's Technology in Education Committee, Cliburn was able to equip each of the students in his virtual reality class with an @Oculus Quest headset—one of the most well-known virtual reality headsets on the market. “I’ve been teaching the course for a while. I’ve never actually taught virtual reality in virtual reality, so given we’ve been doing all these online classes I thought it might be a really cool opportunity” said Cliburn, chair of computer science at Pacific. #innovation #vr #highereducation #pacificSOECS #pacificengineering #UOPacific #PacificProud
