SOLD | This is the “Land of Hypertonia”—an expansive landscape that’s been hit by quite a terrain-altering event and which serves as a visual representation of how my body can feel beneath the surface. With my SCI came hypertonia, a condition in which there is too much muscle tone so that arms or legs are stiff and difficult to move.

When working on this piece I wanted to focus on color and less on form. To accomplish this, I opted for a palette knife to block in and layer the paint for a result that I feel is pretty vibrant and cheerful.

Sometimes when lightning strikes, it causes an outage to the power grid. While it leaves some unaffected, the rest will have to stand the storm and wait for the lights to come back on.

OUTAGE is a piece that explores an aspect of my spinal cord injury that left me paralyzed in May 2022. Just a few months into my 30s—a milestone I viewed as an opportunity for renewed self-discovery and to relinquish the many “second guessings” of my 20s—I was now faced with a challenge that I never would have foreseen.
