The Bipolar Disorder Brain Imaging Study is being conducted by the Center for Understanding Biology Using Imaging Technology in Stony Brook, NY.

We are looking for depressed MEN and WOMEN between the ages 18-65 with a diagnosis of bipolar disorder to participate in a brain imaging research study at Stony Brook University Medical Center and Yale University. The study involves PET scans, an MRI scan, and treatment for your depression with either lithium or lamictal, depending on your needs. Compensation for your time and effort: up to $450 i

General information

Bipolar Disorder (BPD) is a brain disorder characterized by recurrent manic and major depressive episodes with a one year prevalence rate between 1-2%. BPD ranked 20th in terms of causes of loss of disability- adjusted life-years in 1992 and is associated with a life time su***de risk of up to a 19%. Very little is known about the biological basis of this illness and less is known about the mechanism of action of our commonly prescribed medications. We are conducting a study that will significantly increase our understanding of both the illness and its treatment using state of the art brain imaging technologies.
