Lawrence E. Lohman, MD is a Board Certified ophthalmologist at Northeast Ohio Eye Surgeons. He has earned the reputation as the "doctor other doctors trust" by performing countless eye procedures on fellow physicians and their family member. 🙋🏻‍♂️In 1991 I suffered from a contruction site accident and a piece of steel pierced the cornea of my right eye destroying my lens and detaching my retina. Missing 6 months of work ad two major eye surgeries laterI went 13 years without useful site in that eye. Unable to read the E on the chart or knowing the difference between my hand or a pencil placed 2 inches from my face...?
I met Dr. Lohman in 2004 when he discussed a new procedure developed I believe he called "artificial lens implant" (which I believe he might have pioneered?)
After that surgery in 2004, he restored 20/30 vision in that eye which I have enjoyed for 20 years now. Restoring depth perception ad see 50% more of everything in this beautiful world! I a forever grateful Dr. Lohman."

💁‍♀️Dr. Lohman has been watching my glaucoma along with my cataracts for the last few years. He explained that the type of glaucoma I have is rare. He did laser surgery on both eyes this morning as he felt it could be risky to wait. I am sooo grateful to him and my eyesight. My family has been seeing him for years. I trust him and his judgement completely! I am grateful for his excellence and expertise. His office ad staff are top notch too.

June is Cataract Awareness Month! The purpose of this month is to raise awareness about cataracts the importance of early detection and treatment.

👁️ Cataracts are a common eye condition that affects millions of people worldwide. It is characterized by the clouding of the lens in the eye, which leads to blurry vision, and difficulty seeing at night. Cataracts are typically age-related but can also be caused by injury, certain medications, or other underlying health conditions.

👁️ Early detection and treatment of cataracts are crucial to prevent vision loss and improve the quality of life. Cataract surgery, which involves removing the clouded lens and replacing it with an artificial one, is a highly successful and common procedure.

👁️ By spreading awareness about cataracts, individuals are encouraged to take care of their eye health understand the risk factors, and seek appropriate treatment if necessary. Cataract awareness month aims to promote eye health and prevent unnecessary vision impairment due to cataracts.

Today is the first day of Myopia Awareness Week 🤓.The purpose of this designated week is to bring awareness to the "significant problem" of myopia. Another word for "myopia" is "Nearsightedness". This condition happens when your eyeball 👁️ grows too long from front to back, or when there are problems with the shape of your cornea (clear front layer of the eye) or lens (an inner part of the eye that helps the eye focus). Generally myopia management means slowing down myopia progression with spectacle, contact lens or atropine eye drop treatments. Check out April and Jen! They not only attended the ASCRS/ASOA conference in Boston last week, they taught a biometry lab for JCAHPO.

Now, in case you aren't familiar with those acronyms, ASCRS stands for the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. It's a professional society for surgeons specializing in eye surgery.

ASOA is the American Society of Ophthalmic Administrators which concerns itself with the business management, including insurance reimbursement and marketing, of ophthalmic practices in the United States.

JCAHPO is the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology. This organization provides certification and education for eye care professionals with the goal of promoting global eye health and preventing blindness.

And, finally, biometry is the science of collecting and analyzing biologic or health data using statistical methods.

World Optometry Day is an annual observance celebrated on March 23rd to raise awareness about the importance of eye care and the role of optometrists in maintaining good vision and eye health.

World Optometry Day also serves as an opportunity to recognize and appreciate the contributions of optometrists in providing quality eye care services to individuals of all ages. It highlights the vital role they play in preventing and managing eye diseases, improving vision, and enhancing the overall quality of life for people around the globe.

We are in the midst of World Optometry Week. The theme for this year is "Advancing Optometry's Commitment to Global Eye Care" to highlight the ongoing worldwide effort by optometrists to improve equitable access to eye care in addition to promoting Integrated People-centered Eye Care (IPEC) in health systems as recommended by the World Health Organization's 2019 World Report on Vision.
