Today was my final day of paid maternity leave from the state’s Paid Family and Medical Leave program. We had fresh fish, broccolini, and blueberries from the first to mark the occasion. I’ve still been at the farm a whole heckofalot (6 am deploying landscape fabric in the PYO flower field this morning 😅) but this paid leave program allowed us to hire more staff this season, so I could take time to build strength before heavy lifting, go to all the baby appointments, physical therapy appointments, and spend afternoons with Jas. I’ve been working plenty still, since the farm is a big part of what makes me feel like me (and pregnancy/newborn mom life can really make you not feel like you) and because there’s lots to do, but I’m so grateful to have gotten to take care of my baby and myself for the last 5 months in a way that only this state program could provide. Note to future business owners: if this program is something you’d like to take advantage of, ask an accountant or lawyer how to structure your business so that you’ll be able to qualify. [📸 ]
