Yesterday was the bagging of the turkey dinners that your kind donations made possible for many families in the Poconos. 5 organizations picked up bags of turkeys, sides, and pies for families who would otherwise have had no meal on the day we're meant to be most grateful for what we have.

I was late to the bagging but when I arrived there were more Keller Williams agents in that Stroudsburg Market Center than I'd ever seen together at once. Our culture is based on cooperation and supporting one another toward success in reaching our goals; and yesterday I saw very clearly that my colleagues are with KW and embrace that rarely-seen professional culture because they are most passionate about giving back to the communities that have made reaching their own goals possible.

I enjoyed spending time with them, listening to them laugh and seeing them smile as we hefted the goodies to the vehicles that would deliver much-needed good will this Thanksgiving Day. Yesterday will be one of my favorite memories for a while.

Thank you to everyone who donated to the Turkey Drive. If you missed it, there are more I'll be posting soon. If you're unable to donate, that's perfectly fine - I'll be posting about an idea I have soon. Stay tuned, and have a happy, bountiful Thanksgiving!

PS: these are only about 2/3 of the bags that were distributed ❤️

With Thanksgiving just 3 weeks away we decided it's a great time to give back to our community! We are always so thankful for our customers and friends for not only hiring us, but also spreading our name every time someone posts that they're looking for someone to deliver, sharing our posts, taking pics of our trucks when you see them and so much more! 🙌

With all that said, we are giving away TWO $100 giftcards to one of the nearby grocery stores to help a few families with their Thanksgiving dinner! 🍗🥐🥧

All you have to do is share this post with all your friends and comment done! We will choose the winners on 11/15 this way you have time to grocery shop before the 25th!

Maybe we will giveaway a few Haab Hauling tshirts while we are at it! 😉

This college has a special program for intellectually and developmentally disabled young adults. Something like that should be promoted and emulated until it becomes the norm in all secondary education settings. Instead, Slippery Rock University's decision-makers want to end this program, while the student body wants it to remain in place. I didn't know a program like this was available to young adults like my son and my hope is that he will have the opportunity to attend one between graduating high school and choosing a path in life (if his support services can help me get him the education he refuses now). These students have every right to a an education, and I can tell from experience that there is almost no educational model or institution that aims to support and promote high-functioning students with special needs, despite the fact that with that specialized education they would become a benefit to society.

Please sign. It takes less time than it took to read my rant 😆

Pretty Qool ;)

*Q is for Quakers*

The Society of Friends, also known as Quakers, played an influential role in Monroe County’s history. The Quaker presence in Monroe County had its beginnings in Stroudsburg when Daniel Stroud converted to the Quaker faith in 1802 after marrying Elizabeth Shoemaker. By 1811, Daniel Stroud had set aside land on Main and 8th streets for the Quakers to meet.

In 1827, variations in dogma divided the Society of Friends, resulting in two groups of Quakers: the Hicksite and the Orthodox. In Stroudsburg, the Orthodox Quakers remained at the original meetinghouse, while the Hicksite Quakers moved to a new meetinghouse just a couple blocks away in 1828. The locations of both meetinghouses and their burial grounds are marked on this 1858 map of Stroudsburg.

Today, there are no meetinghouses in Monroe County and practicing Quakers must travel outside the area to gather. (The Hicksite and Orthodox Quakers reunited in 1895.) The only remaining evidence of the two Quaker meetinghouses in Stroudsburg are their cemeteries, the Hicksite cemetery on Quaker Alley and the Orthodox cemetery on Ann Street.

Happy Halloween: Making the holiday fun for everyone | Autism Speaks 10/28/2021

Halloween & Autism - One Step At A Time

https://www.autismspeaks.org/blog/happy-halloween-making-holiday-fun-everyone

This website has great suggestions for grownups of children on the Spectrum. Possibly more than any other holiday with the exception of Christmas, Halloween tends to be extremely overwhelming for children and adults who are in the Autism Spectrum, and almost never fails to start out fun and exciting... only to nose-dive into an evening of anxiety, pleading, and melt-downs just to name a few.

Holidays, which are so exciting and fun for so many, are the stuff of nightmares for others. Visual sensory overload (lots of people who don't look like people, often crowded and walking in both directions on the sidewalk), Auditory sensory overload (scary sounds and loud music, shrieking and unexpected bursts of laughter), and Physical sensory overload (bumping into people, uncomfortable costumes, holding onto the bag of candy while figuring out where to stand for their turn, trying to navigate unfamiliar sidewalks and steps and landings all with different configurations and colors, and possibly in various states of disrepair -or lawns with unexpected divots and rocks or lawns made only of rocks- and remembering to say 'trick-or-treat' politely... all while keeping track of their grown-up or group because they've been told how dangerous it could be to get lost).

Most of these kids start out genuinely excited to participate for all of the same reasons anyone else is. But their neurology eventually gets the better of their real personalities. And when it's all over, and they're sitting on the sofa eating their very hard earned loot, watching Charlie Brown or Edward Scissorhands, they're likely doing one of 2 things:
Sniffling and asking what happened, why dont the other kids get upset, why are they mad at me? while their grown-up hands then a tissue for the last couple of tears
Or
Completely oblivious that anything happened because they had a complete disconnect during the experience

So if you see someone out Trick-or-Treating this weekend and you find yourself wondering why they aren't bouncy or racing to the next house, why they mumbled the words with their head down and turned away quickly, why they wouldn't look you in the eye, why they barely wore anything resembling a costume or why it was just an outfit without a mask or makeup, or why they stated a fact about Halloween or something totally unrelated then walked away, they weren't being rude. They were just doing the best they could to be like the other kids and have some fun.

Oh, and if the person didn't speak at all, they may be non-verbal, which is not rude, it simply isn't a choice at all.

Thank you for reading and I hope everyone, *everyone* has a Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween: Making the holiday fun for everyone | Autism Speaks Halloween is a fun night of costumes and candy for kids of all ages. But for those on the autism spectrum, scary sounds and decorations, tight or scratchy costumes and going out at night can be a lot to handle. Helping your child know what to expect from Halloween can help make it a fun time for

VA tweaks its home loan program for the pandemic era 10/27/2021

🇺🇸 MILITARY HOME BUYERS 🇺🇸
🇺🇸 VA LOANS NEWS! 🇺🇸
If you're considering purchasing a home with a VA Loan, this article from yesterday, October 26th, is a MUST READ.

🔑 Key Points:

⭐ The VA has been more likely to adjust values when disputed in recent months.
⭐ VA appraisers can now consider the price trajectory of pending sales prices in
the area, though they still can’t use those prices as comparable properties.
⭐ What comparables they do use can now be automatically generated by a
computer, as opposed to manually researched.
⭐ Appraisals can be done from the exterior of a home alone, without the need to
go inside.

VA tweaks its home loan program for the pandemic era In the hottest real estate market in decades, the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs seeks to keep pace by giving appraisers flexibility.
