Did you know wood is back? Warm, cozy and enduring it’s here.
Once upon a time it was a pink-‘90’s house. Now this beauty is here to say, “look at me now”.
Every surface and room was rethought and touched. What once was a family room transformed into a cook’s dream. Keep watching to see the transformation.
Do you like the new ceiling?
Having a soft green Sunday morning.
The art was hung at the lake house. It has left an impression of quiet for the owner’s suite. Rest is good.
What are you up to today?
Later I’ll be putting-up dill pickles and raspberry jam, seeing a movie with friends and hanging out with Willow (lab puppy).
She’s a moody one; dramatic to cozy, textured to smooth and handsome to pretty.
Client placed architectural design at the top of their list. They sought out a team of an architect, builder and interior designer. They stayed focused on the dream.
More to come.
Photos of the week made me ponder this…food is art. Growing vegetables from the garden, sourcing from local farmers, foraging the land for fruit and mushrooms and creating meals to share with others is the canvas, the stroke of the brush and the reveal is eating.
Once I had children, I found my outlet. People need to eat, children look up at you needing nourishment, direction and love. I found myself in the shoes of my grandma Hebert and mom; canning, forging fruit and sharing meals. My dad was a huge instigator. He couldn’t help himself at a fruit stand or passing wild blackberries during his travel home from a business trip. Cases of fruit, vegetables and meat would walk through the door.
The love of others is ultimately responsible for the larder being stuffed. Canned peaches flip into a cobbler in minutes, smoked salmon is a fast appetizer with cream cheese, relish served alongside hotdogs elevates the trash-food, frozen berries make quick pies for the neighbor. The list goes on.
Time may have robbed me of painting lessons, but it blessed me with a happy home and full bellies. A home where meals are ready to share, laughs at the counter are plentiful and the smells from the kitchen roll outside to entice a person to come in.
It’s a lifestyle where a person doesn’t need Safeway to live. Meals are served from the season. You can heal your body from the weeds outside, you can wake to fresh flowers and your fingernails have dirt underneath, your skin is brown from the sun and life is bright.
This is meant for a mom who thinks all she does is cook and clean for her family. Turn it around and see your gifts. Look at the food as art, see your children in the presence of it. If it is rejected, remember Van Gough was laughed at. It takes time to overhaul the kitchen, but it is worth it. Our health and future is worth it.
These hardworking people have planned some fun too. It shouldn’t be all work and no play.
For the love of Summer! Just putting this here to share what’s in the PNW.
The first photo is of historic Salmon Beach. No cars can access the cabins. The only way in is by foot or boat.
How long could you make it there? Do you float with a beer in your hand on a tube (not me because of imaginary sharks), puzzles and rose’, coffee and books, fishing from the deck…? What would you do if you had all Summer to live here?
We love our time on the water. It’s full of life, laughter and fun.
On this night I ate fish tacos. Now I want to go back.
These people travel. They have impeccable taste that is their own. Traveling collections and sometimes whimsical local art punctuate the shelves. This home is a true story of hospitality, with generosity pouring out the doors.
What will be timeless? What will last forever in design? Nothing. With the exception of laughs at the pool outside, neighbors that share cream when you run out and relationships. Things date, children grow out the door, blue makes way for red, gray gets laughed at, but sharing life abundantly with others never gets old.
Enjoy!
It’s me. Mostly in blue jeans and loving life. I have a lifetime of design behind me, with architecture as my favorite avenue of creation.

Shop bagels anyone? Made these from a shared recipe from my DIL, Megan. Both are keepers.
Blue and white is heading back in this Spring. How do I know? Shea McGee told me so😂
Always classic and beautiful you can’t go wrong with homemade bagels too.
Coffee time to supper this room shows off nature. Like most I need to update along the way, but I also find contentment in the waiting.
Today is all about phase one. These are field shots, but still fun to share.
Cozy, calm, warm and loving live here. The three teens bring energy and humor. Mom is calm as a cucumber with wisdom and ten steps ahead of the teens.
We were hired to make the space useable for the family. Now the space is set up for conversation and entertaining.
Thank you for your business. Love your company too.
In the throes of a complete remodel at the River House. Time warp of the early 2000’s is peeling away.
We hope you had a wonderful Christmas celebration yesterday with friends and family!

Just simply beautiful. Temple Moss diffuser and candles have notes of moss, leaves, earthy river rocks and sweetness of the forest.
See you at our store or online. We ship in the USA.
Back to work feeling blessed beyond what I deserve. In the wee morning hours this photo is taken of my Thanksgiving floral. She’s in full bloom not ready to give way to a Christmas tree.
Black Friday and Small Business Saturday are behind. Today, I am restocking the shop, fluffing the trees and moving my home around to embrace Christmas.
Thank you patrons of Northlight Interiors. I see you. I see your heart for small businesses and your desire in your many ways to bless us. Frankly, when I sit with this, it makes me tear up. Without you small-town-USA goes away. Thank you.
It needed to be done. The views and natural light were buried. Now there’s a cozy sun drenched space to visit by the fire.
Sunday supper plans? I do. Pot roast and potatoes are in order along with pleasant company.
Be ready for the fall. Visit our online shop for your table or hearth.

Sleep is a beautiful thing. Where do we go when we sleep? Funny how we can push ourselves, but at the end of the day our bodies need to restore and replenish.
A busy young family lives in this home. Mom and dad made their bedroom a priority. Bravo I say!
Did you know not only are we interior designers we are a shop? We can either come in with sledgehammers or fluff your bed. We have an online store but beyond this, we pull from a vast array of sources to get the look you are after.
Current mood. Find this Autumnal favorite on our online shop or in store.
Friday!!!! I love you.
I also love planning a space that functions for the family. These people are busy on the boat all summer long. This is where they gather for football games once boating season ends. Perfectly laid out for cocktails and houseguest’s breakfast (do they go together?). Just think entertaining.
Happy Friday.
Not so sure I should post my kitchen life, but I do it anyway. This is a day in the life at my house and I wouldn’t want it any other way.
Gratitude fills me when I honor how my parents raised us during the height of processed-microwaveable food. My father was a salty-character. He didn’t miss church, but hid a bottle of Wild Turkey in the woodpile. He instilled a high work ethic and drive in us kids. The other amazing character anomaly was his emphasis on eating local and in season food. This was before anyone knew it would trend.
My creative mom might grumble as she peeled in season peaches to can or clean buckets of smelt at the sink, but she saved and stocked our pantry with treasures my father brought home. The food could be from Yakima, a local fruit stand, our garden or a deserted apple tree in a field. Never did we drive by a loaded tree or blackberry bushes where we didn’t acknowledge the fruit or possibly glean a harvest.
It’s simply in me. I feel my father burst with smiles as he watches me from Heaven. His voice would boom with encouragement of my gatherings. My mother also is a steward of the home. Nothing is wasted, but added to the most delicious pot, where no recipe can be written from for it is a combination of several meals to get a bowl of soup.
It makes me tear up with gratitude of my roots and the blessings our creator sets before us.
I was told, “We can make that” or “lay your head on your pillow each night thanking the Lord for what was accomplished. We don’t waste time thinking of what needs to be done, for that is for tomorrow”.
This is why I am who I am. If you are a kid who was fed from the microwave or a box, I am here to encourage you, it can be different in your life. Start small, plant one pot of basil, eat one apple from the tree in your neighborhood.
My son gave me the sweetest words last night. “Mom, it is remarkable how you eat. You’re the epitome of farm-to-table. You eat clean with minimal ingredients”. It made me stop to let his words land in my heart. They will be stored there forever. He gets it. And after I am called home to be with the Lord, He will pick up where my Dad and Mom left off.
Start today.
These kitties showed up at our photo shoot. For the love of animals they deserve a space here.
